EMMA 2 - Tau vs. King

Event Preview: EMMA 2 - Tau vs. King
Evolution Fight League
2022-10-29, Las Vegas, Wild Bob's Bar - Las Vegas
Author:Wayne Kerr

After the rip-roaring success of our debut event EMMA 2 comes hot on its heels on October 29th at Wild Bob’s Bar in sunny Las Vegas.  We have a stacked card featuring nine fights headlined by one of the biggest names in Mixed Martial Arts, Tau Masunwendinghamer,  That’s right.  You know if you say his name three times in front of a steamy mirror at midnight you are likely to have a brain aneurism and end up with a dislocated tongue.

Prelims

(135lbs) Ozaki Buakaw(3-2-0) vs. Glenn Morano(6-5-0)

Glenn Morano has his work cut out here against the rangy Osaka Buakaw.  Buakaw has a twelve centimetre height advantage and is somewhat of a grinch in the clinch.  He will likely use his jab to utilise his reach advantage before picking his moments to bring the pain in the clinch.  Worryingly for Morano, Buakaw can also hold is own on the ground.  Morano is going to have to rely on his boxing to get to work on the inside.  Preventing Buakaw clinching up with him is vital here, as they are well-matched on the ground.

(170lbs) Malik Hooker(3-2-0) vs. Terrell Knight(0-1-0)

Our second fight of the evening is a fascinating clash between two ground fighters.  Malik Hooker is a BJJ blue belt who will be hunting takedowns from the opening bell.  A devastating ground and pound merchant, Hooker has a 97% strike accuracy when grounded.  Knight went three rounds on his debut succumbing to a third round knockout.  He is a quality wrestler who needs to bully Hooker up against the cage and keep him there.

(135lbs) Mercury Milkyway(2-0-0) vs. Chuck Demorris(1-0-0)

The marvellously named Mercury Milkyway makes his Evolution debut against the also undefeated Chuck Demorris.  These fighters are replicas of each other with the likely edge going to Demorris for his boxing.  Demorris debut ended with him beating down his opponent for three minutes, landing 100% of his head shots.  Alarmingly Milkyway has an impressive 97% snipe rate swell meaning that this bout is going to be a test of chins as both fighters will likely swing to win.

(265lbs) John Amery(12-11-0) vs. Sol Peters(2-0-0)

Journeyman John Amery comes into this bout on a 5 fight losing streak.  A three-time submission of the night winner, he is incredibly dangerous on the ground.  His opponent, Peters is an impressive specimen and his going to have to keep the fight standing to have a chance.  Peters has a decent takedown defence, so this could be an intriguing matchup.

Main Card

(265lbs) Ted Frucker(2-0-0) vs. Armin Brorsson(1-0-0)

7 foot Frucker has a massive twenty centimetre height advantage over Brorsson and will be looking to make his size count.  The Swede, Armin Brorsson is up against it here and needs to utilise his Muay Thai if he is to take the win.  Frucker really has two options, he could use his size to try and keep Brorsson against the cage and utilise some dirty boxing.  Alternatively he may well take it to the ground even though the fighters are rather evenly matched there.

(265lbs) Titan Reign(23-17-0) vs. Solomon Pruitt(6-2-1)

MMA legend and former ABW Heavyweight Champion Titan Reign finds himself on a winning streak once again faces off against an opponent seventeen years younger than him.

The less experienced Pruitt is a top quality BJJ brown belt would certainly have the advantage if he can take Reign down.  Titan Reign will likely use his leg kicks to maintain a safe distance and will look to turn it into a dog fight.

(135lbs) Edwin Hubble(4-1-0) vs. Giacomo Bandolero(3-2-0)

This is the battle of two quality young prospects fighting it out to become the future of the Bantamweight Division.  Hubble, the winner of a million dollar Bantamweight tournament comes into this fight on a two fight streak.  He is an exceptional wrestler that will look to control the fight.  A vicious ground and pounder by trade, he will be looking to get it to the deck as quick as possible.  The ‘blue bandana’ Giacoma Bandolero , the winner of one submission of the night, and one fight of the night award is nobody’s fool.  A BJJ brown belt, who is more than comfortable on the ground, could well prove to be a tricky puzzle for Hubble to solve.

Co-Main Event

(170lbs) Joey Simone(12-7-0) vs. Avraam Papadopoulos(35-23-1)

The Co-Main Event of the evening is a mouthwatering prospect.  Joey Simone is a fantastic fighter, a former Catch Wrestling Champion who has not quite converted his wrestling pedigree in to MMA just yet.  Lately his form has improved and he is riding high on a two-fight win streak.  He is a lumberjack of sorts, who prefers to chop away at his opponents legs before beating them up.  Peculiarly, for someone with a genuine first-class wrestling pedigree, he has developed an addiction to throwing down in the centre of the cage.

Avraam Papadopoulos has balls the size of Jupiter’s moons.  He has fought the top level over the last five years.  Avraam is somewhat of a decision specialist with 77% of his fights going the distance.  He tends to focus his strikes on quantity rather than quality, and with a good takedown defence to boot he represents a tenacious challenge to welcome Simone to Evolution.

Main Event

(265lbs) Tau Masunwendinghamar(12-6-0) vs. Jimmy King(10-10-3)

“The Black Terror” Tau Masunw, Masunwien, Masundwingdung, let’s just call him Tau, is a top-class boxer who has finished every opponent that he has faced.  A two-time KO of the night winner, he is certainly a fighter with dynamite in his fists.  A power puncher who is incredibly elusive in his movements is one of the best pure boxers in MMA.

When Jimmy King burst onto the MMA scene he rattled off seven straight victories and looked destined for greatness.  Since then he has gone 3-10 and ended up drawing three fights.  King is an elite level wrestler that needs to start utilising his talents and try to avoid being drawn into gunfights.

This is a classic MMA matchup.  Boxer vs. Wrestler.  Two top level fighters who will try to impose their style on each other.  No doubt Tau is a terrifying prospect, however, if King can tie him up against the cage and get him on his back the momentum will change significantly.  Personally I cannot wait for this one.
