"I've Seen Kahn Almost Decapitate Guys" - Bob Chong
Combate 198 is a banger of a card headlined by Anthony Ochoa verse Mohammed Kahn for the illusive and lucrative Light Heavyweight title. The bad motherf—ers keep coming down the rest of the main card: fans will also get to witness Barack Obaminator against Brazilian legend Edison Atunes. Both bouts should be violent.
Perhaps a little too violent, according to Bob Chong.
Chong knows more than most about success at two different weight classes. He dominated at light heavyweight for years before grabbing the heavyweight title and joining the small cadre of CFC champ-champs. During the latest episode of his Bob Chong & Friendz show, he had some words of warning for Ochoa as he prepares to face Kahn’s power at 205 pounds.
“We have seen Larry Williams hurt Anthony Ochoa in numerous fights,” Chong said. “He can’t get hit by Mohammed Kahn. Kahn hits so hard, bro. I have seen Kahn almost decapitate guys. Valentin Taneyev, Mantak Garuda, Fabiano Capellio. The way that he was knocking guys out for a while was very scary. There's a reason why he has 30 knockouts under his belt.”
Chong’s co-host Ziggy Cliff countered that negativity, suggesting we might see the best Anthony Ochoa yet now that he’s no longer cutting massive amounts of weight.
“What does Kahn do the first time he tastes Ochoa’s power?” Cliff asked. “Which he has never seen before, with [Ochoa] in his prime, and we’ve never seen Anthony looking this good before, he's the champ for a reason. He just beat the sh*t out of Taneyev in back-to-back fights. The same fighter who won his last 3 bouts verse Kahn, doctor stoppage be damned.”
Ochoa does have that mythical one-punch KO power, and we’ve learned he maintains that power through 25 minutes of fighting. Does that power diminish when he’s fighting guys who hit just as hard as he does? It’s possible. It’s also possible that his chin will be much more durable now that he's on a better diet, eating more Mexican horse meat and supplements than he was previously.
As it stands, Mohammed Kahn is a slight -100 favorite to beat the +100 Anthony Ochoa, showing bookies have similar concerns as Bob Chong.
