WVT Champion Explains Why He Left SYN to Join WVT

Fighter profile of Ryoto Takahashi by Chris Karter

The current #1 Lightweight in the world and the WVT Lightweight champion Ryoto Takahashi (24-8-0) explains the reasons behind his exodus from the Synchronicity roster to join World Vale Tudo.
For the first time since departing the Syn' organization, Ryoto Takahashi explains to fans why he officially joined the roster at World Vale Tudo. The former SMASH featherweight champion and SYN Lightweight contender initiated a historic transition through his representatives at Convict Inc that allowed him to leave the SYN promotion and join WVT.

According to Takahashi, his earliest machinations about striking up this transition came after his fight against Tacticus Kilgore when he first brought up the idea to his management team. Takahashi already has deep ties to WVT thanks to his head coach and manager Chris Karter, who sits on the board as an executive at the London-based promotion.

"At the end of the day, I felt that I'm pretty young in my career and I wanted to try something different," Takahashi told the Tycoon Times during a media conference call. "I've always wanted to travel a lot and compete, and I actually grew up watching Asian mixed martial arts with open weight fights, and to be able to have the opportunity to travel over to a new land and to compete in a totally different weight class, it was something I couldn't pass up."
"Working with Convicted Inc and Chris [Karter] after my last fight, I was like 'you know what you think this is something that could be possible?' and he said 'anything's possible' and so Chris was able to get it done. Here we are now and I'm glad everything fell into the right place. Now I'm a WVT champion and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens."

The past few years have been rather tumultuous for Takahashi after he ended up at odds with SYN president Dana Black when he demanded a bout against the former champion Rod De Minaur before signing on the dotted line. Following that incident, Takahashi and Dana Black had a very public war of words in the media.
Takahashi remained a stalwart with SYN even after that incident, however, but he did suffer his second loss in another title shot when he fell to Tacticus Kilgore by decision.

Following that fight, Takahashi felt like the time was right to explore other options for his career but he insists there was no bad blood with SYN about his exit.
"I leave SYN with no regrets, on good terms," Takahashi stated. "I believe I accomplished everything I could there in a short period of time. I challenged for the belt 2 times in 5 fights. It was going to be a hard sell to get that 3rd fight for the title after coming up short already twice."

"I think me coming to WVT, there was a lot of new goals, a lot fresh things, a lot of fresh matchups. This is different. The guys have been doing the openweight fighting since the beginning, they bring a different style of mixed martial arts to the table."

Right now Takahashi is the 3rd ranked P4P fighter on the planet, and is currently slotted to defend his championship belt against surging challenger from Squirley Dan's camp, Gunnar Bloodaxe.
