Combate 226: Welterweight Title On The Line

Event Preview: C226: Doomsday vs Marciano
Combate

London, United Kingdom - The welterweight championship is on the line at C226 when the champion Kronos Doomsday (21-12-0) takes on "The Bully" Mikey Marciano (15-4-0) in the main event of the evening.

Doomsday is the current welterweight kingpin in Combate after dethroning his long-time rival and the former champion Dude "El Duderino" McWrestler (31-13-0) back at C208 and C211. With both the DMMA and Combate welterweight championships strapped around his waist, Doomsday has been busy as of late. He even was ambitious enough to aim for a 3rd championship belt at Syn', which he ultimately came up short suffering a decision loss to Convicted excellence. Dream big dreams Louie, dream big dreams. Doomsday has proven that he's one of the most dangerous grapplers on the planet and he plans on exposing Marciano's ground game in their upcoming matchup.

Marciano has other plans in mind, currently the 3rd rank welterweight in the world riding a red-hot 7 fight win streak, he's beaten the 170 lb divisions very best fighters not named Kronos Doomsday. Prior to joining the Combate roster he was known for his big right hand, and after a rocky start to his PPV career he's turned things around and has seemed to find his range, mixing in tactical shifts of power and accuracy to overrun his opponents. Marciano's camp is confident heading into this fight, citing The Bully's knockout win over Dude McWrestler as the blueprint to how he will approach this championship opportunity.

In the co-main event of the evening we have a clash between two former heavyweight champions, Alborz "Mink Coat" Mumu (35-16-1) and Andrei Kersikov (20-6-0). Mumu wins 97% of his fights by knockout and Kersikov is batting a perfect 100% knockout percentage in his victory, if I was a gambling man, I'd tell folks to bet the whole dang house and their sister's ass on the fight to end by knockout.

Kersikov has looked unstoppage under the Combate banner, against anybody not named Mike Haggar. While his striking is elite and dangerous, he just hasn't shown much competence off his back against a caliber of grappler like Haggar. There are levels to this game and Haggar thus far has appeared to have the Ukranian's number. However, when it comes to the sweet science of standing and banging, Andrei has proven to be one of the most competent in the game today. He's earned of the night bonuses in 7 of his last 10 victories, proving himself to be one of the very best and most exciting in the heavyweight division. Kersikov aims to prove that again at C226.

Standing across from him will be the Iraqi super-hulk, Alborz Mumu. The 37-year old Iraqi fighter is a SFL Hall of Famer, former Combate Heavyweight champion, and a veteran of the game. He's fought some of the very best heavyweight fighters on the planet for the majority of his career and he's competed in the premier organizations. An SFL, SYN, and Combate veteran of the league, Mumu has relied on knocking opponents silly with his over-sized mallets. Mumu's camp has been very vocal about having the tools to defeat the younger Heavyweight contender, and they have been talking trash all week. Infact, John Wayne and Alborz Mumu have all but guaranteed a first round knockout.
