Let's get in the cage and take a look at the action.
Showtime 5
PRELIMS
HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT
Michail Shozintski -vs- Rip Taylor
Rip decided he wasn't going to waste anytime in standing with Michail and trading shots and went
straight for the takedown. He got it and worked for position and threw a few strikes, but wasn't
happy so he stood up and took him right back down. This time he had him where he wanted him and
hooked up a nice submission.
Result: Rip Taylor 1st rd. Submission via Americana
MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT
Kenny Grohl -vs- David Goliath
Well David started out pretty steady and went to the clinch and then pulled guard. He didn't do
much there nor did Kenny so the referee decided to stand them back up. Kenny then decided to take
David down and was successful with his attempt. Once he got the fight to the ground he started
throwing some very good shots wearing David down to where he was able to slap a submission on.
Result: Kenny Grohl 1st rd. Submission via Armbar
MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT
Francis Cope -vs- Randy Couture
Wow...is a good way to start this out. Francis was having no part in Randy's wrestling match and
stop every single takedown attempt that Randy threw at him. All the while he was steady picking
him apart with very precise strikes, cutting Randy very early on and preceeding to knock him down
and wave him back up for more. Once they stood back up it was all but over for Randy and his
wrestling match.
Result: Francis Cope 1st rd. Knockout via Punches
MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT
Nicky Johnson -vs- Don Brascoe
Nicky really thought he put a good gameplan together before the fight however after I'm sure he
was thinking man I wish I would have done something different. Don was very comfortable on his
back and consistantly working for a submission. Don didn't seem to be to concerned about trying
to improve his position and worked off his back until and did what he thought he could. Lock up
a submission after switching from one sub to another.
Result: Don Brascoe 1st rd. Submission via Guillotine
HEAVWEIGHT BOUT
Lennart Stahlhandske -vs- Gabriel Douglas Key
This wasn't at all what everyone thought it was going to be, a stand up war between two great
boxers. It ended up being a one sided fight with Gabriel clinching Lennart up and just peppering
him with strike after strike all the while stopping 13 takedown attempts.
Result: Gabriel Douglas Key 1st rd. Knockout via Punches
MAIN CARD
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT
Tommy Riordan -vs- Alexander Larsson
Tommy came started this fight like he was shot out of a cannon and was ready from the first bell
landing a strike which immediately opened a cut on Alexander. The cut made Alexander think just
a little to much which gave Tommy just enough time to land a takedown. Tommy slipped away from a
couple of sub attempts from Alexander. Once he was in a better position he just started raining
down punches until the referee had no choice but to jump in and save Alexander.
Result: Tommy Riordan 1st rd. TKO via Strikes
BANTAMWEIGHT BOUT
Avery Jackson Brown -vs- Cugler Araujo
This may not have been the most exiting fight, but it was a promising fight. It showed that both
Avery Jackson and Culger both have a ton of heart. Culger was really eager to stand and throw
punch combo after punch combo but, he wasn't very successful as Avery consistantly took him down
and threw a few punches and stood back up. Then continued to take him down and get back up.
Result: Avery Jackson Brown via Unanimous Decision
MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT
Tim Small -vs- Lesbian Partner
Lesbian partner is a dangerous foe to anyone that he steps into the cage with. If people didn't
know that before this fight now they do. Lesbian never even gave Tim the opportunity to get off
one strike before taking it into the clinch and delivering one of the most one sided ass whippins
seen at Showtime. Lesbian landed absolutely everything he threw and most were monster knees.
Result: Lesbian Partner 1st rd. TKO via Knees
CO-MAIN EVENT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT
Hannu Haavisto -vs- Jackson Kenny
This was a barn burner for sure. You could have chosen either fighter as the winner. The fight
went back and forth throughout the fight with each taking control for a round a peice in the
first two rounds. The third round was close but Jackson Kenny got the nod. Some may say that the
judges for this fight may have been a little incompetent or were to involved in their food or
something. However the fight went the distance and when that happens you leave the fight up to
the judges. It just goes to show you that you really don't want to let the judges decide the winner.
Result: Jackson Kenny via Unanimous Decision (Also decided to call the champ out for a title shot
which has been granted)
MAIN EVENT LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE BOUT
Nafes Alhangum -vs- David Berkowitz
Before the fight started some of the press had a chance to interview Nafes manager and he said
"Nafes Alhangum will be the Light Heavyweight Champion after this fight". Nafes probably wishes
his manager hadn't done that as he got the floor mop with himself tonight. He was beaten as if
he stolen David's girlfriend and done the dirty dirty with her. David unloaded with ungodly
power looking to put Nafes lights out with every strike. Before the first minute he did just
that after cutting and knocking him down.
Result: David Berkowitz 1st rd. Knockout via Punch and now the Light Heavyweight Champion
POST FIGHT PRESS CONFERENCE
Tim Key is happy to say that this was the best event that Showtime Promotions has held to date.
the event was a sellout and we had many fans smiling as they exited the building and were still
talking about many of the fights. Tim also said that Jackson Kenny earned his shot at Sonny
Nagasaki on the October 10th or 17th card. This is the way an event is suppose to go with all
the fighters fulfilling their duties. You should expect expect events like this more often.
