LA Combat: KT Round 1 Review

Tonichie Hong vs. Milan Naaktgeboren:

The event opened up with a good boxer vs. kickboxer matchup.  There was some good back and forth for a while with Hong using kicks to control for the most part along with a bit of clinch action thrown in the middle.  Seemingly out of nowhere however, Hong ended it with his first successful head strike, and he advances in the tournament after thanking his fans.  He will face John Hess in the next round.

Junior Johnson vs. Travis Lucas Jr:

This was a matchup between two guys with good chins, and that showed in the fight.  Overall, the fight was fairly even with both fighters landing many strikes, both fighters getting cut, and both fighters appearing equally comfortable in the clinch and at range.  Johnson did enough to edge out the decision though, so he advances in the tournament.  He will face Biru Abuabu in the next round.

John Hess vs. The Dong:

This one was pretty one sided.  Hess’s opponent came in looking to thump some dongs apparently, but ended up getting dominated, cut, and knocked out in the first after pretending that he couldn’t see.  John Hess did not live up to his promise to brutally fist his opponent after the fight, but he did thank his fans and will go on to face Tonichie Hong in the next round.

Remy Bonjasky vs. Mr. Steel  Penn:

What happens when a big right hand meets a good chin?  Apparently the good chin gives out after five head strikes.  Bonjasky ended this one early, thanked his fans, and will face Keoni Kain in the next round.

Keoni Kain vs. Kishion Matthew:

Keoni Kain apparently cuts easily, but Matthew is the one who ended up with a cut early in this one.  Shortly after cutting his opponent, Kain got the quickest knockout of the night and will face Bonjasky in the next round.

Biru Abuabu vs. Pauline Hanson:

Hanson showed a tendency to cut, and Abuabu took advantage of it early.  There was some good back and forth with Abuabu coming out on top more often than not until BAM!...front kick to the face followed by a presumably comical faceplant into the ropes.  Abuabu will go on to face Junior Johnson in the next round.

Mckayla Maroney vs. Hank McCoy:

This was a classic matchup between a gymnast and a blue guy.  Unfortunately for the blue guy, the gymnast was better in the clinch.  Most of the fight was spent there, and Maroney finished it there in the third.  He thanked his fans afterwards, and will face God in the next round.

Runge Fehlberg vs. Badr Hadi:

Hadi appeared to be dictating the pace right out of the gate with several early shots landing.  Unfortunately for him, Fehlberg is apparently heavy handed, and cut him, knocked him down, and then knocked him out cold about three minutes in.  Fehlberg followed up with a really stupid math joke, and he will face Maroney in the next round.

Those other fights:

I’m tired of typing now, so in short…Rose dominated Guillard in the clinch and Glow stopped Step Child in the first.

Tune in for the next round of the tournament on October 6th. We are also looking for KT fighters, so please contact Colin Connor (63965) for a contract if you are interested in KT fights in LA.  Finally, LA Bookie will be offering odds on the next event if you want to place bets.
