 We are back again for Heavyweight Prize Fighting's excellent card set to take place here in Las Vegas at the MMA Grand arena Saturday night on December 21st. After Jeremy Jackson won the main event of the night and Gigantor Ubereem sent fans of Armor King home in prayers as he rocked his soul with the power behind his punches on the ground. He covered kings hands as if he was a pallbearer and walked his way into a $25K check as he exited the arena.
After The Tank Flynn won his debut fight against Josh Barnett upon arriving to this organization in impressive fashion, he signed his contract to fight Tootsie Roll in less time than it took for him to Knock Barnett out, he obviously wants to get back in the cage as soon as possible. As we have plenty of fighters who constantly find themselves in the cage as soon as possible in HWP, we are glad to have fighters like Flynn. Tootsie Roll is an excellent standup and clinch fighter who is known to be a Kickboxer often in his career who will throw heavy strikes until his foe is no longer standing. The only problem with that skillset is when he runs into someone who doesnt want to stand with him. If the Tank gets this fight to the ground it will be another easy victory as Tootsie Roll is like a fish without water on his back. This will be one of our benchmark fights between an elite standup fighter against an elite ground fighter.
Reagel Highlander Johehanson will show up Saturday with at least a 45lb weight advantage going into his shot at redemption after Buster Cherry bullied him around the cage for an entire 15 minutes straight. Johehanson was dominated and out-struck in the standup and was taken down against his will just as frequently. He is looking to bounce back by handling his business against Fred Sanford. “Beauty may be skin deep, BUT UGLY GOES BARE TO THE BONE” is what Red Foxx states and let me tell you, this is one ugly dude. At 18 years of age Red Foxx had a complete color change and went from the looks of a 65 year old BLACK comedian to a 35 year old white rockstar before starting his MMA career. His fight record isnt much nicer, at 16-12 he looks to go through the remainder of his career as a marginal at best fighter. This fight however teeters in his favor as he is a better standup fighter and has decent enough wrestling skills to keep it there. Nevertheless, look for this fight to be another fun bout providing us fiends excitement.
Just like our event poster is painted up nicely in all the right spots, Mirko Filipovic has blessed his MMA record with 2 quick wins painting his opponents faces red and blue like the American flag this event will raise but replacing the stars and stripes with bruises and blood. Cro Cop will be excited to try and add another win in between this barbed fencing but it wont come easy against wrestling Jiu Jitsu artist Lagoc Li. After receiving his blue belt he has shown excellent ability to land strikes from the ground and I guarantee you, if this fight gets to the ground, Cro Cop WONT get back up unless someone is helping him up or the bell rings. Likewise much like our other fights of the night, if the fight stays on the fighter's feet, it wont be there long as well as Lagoc Li will be sent down forcibly for the rest of the night. Cro Crop holds a 35lb weight advantage and if Li hasnt focused on his evasion skills, his face might be in for a world of hurt. Hopefully his woman is the type that likes to keep the lights off at night or he will be very strong for his next fight.
The last and main event of the standup vs ground fighting battles will be between Roy Nelson and Michael Fury. Hammer Fury's name is misleading as you would assume he is known for getting his opponent to the ground and dropping repeated hammer fists but in fact in his 10 fight career he has NEVER thrown a hammer fist or even a punch in ANY of his fights. Fury is actually a very skilled fighter, his only downfall may be his biggest, since he is so one dimensional, he is extremely predictable. A one trick pony like he is will always have trouble against any fighter who is skilled in many areas and thats what Roy Nelson is, while he isnt very effective on the ground, he is an average wrestler and above average standup fighter. Any foe of his must look out for his punches because he learned to be a lot more crisp with his punches in a world class boxing ring as well as learning from a legendary Muay Thai master competing with black and red tassles. Before I say lets chalk this one up to a win for Roy, we should all enjoy the action this fight will bring.
Lets thank HWP for providing us with yet another card of violence as we enjoy the amazing battles that have been taking place in our organization. With only 3 more events before we bring in 2014 the opportunity for fight of the year is starting to get slim, as fighters make their last bids for the award, they provide excellent entertainment for our warmongering needs.
