Opening fights:
Gunnarsson v Unbelivable – Gunnarsson will be looking to drive an ice pick through the GDL-winless Bull. Unbelivable has been searching for an E and a fighting style that will work while Gunnarsson is hoping his BJJ advantage will push him over the top. The 205 division is top-heavy and a win from either of these two will bring them a step closer.
Sefina vs Bully – Sefina called Bully a bully. Bully called Sefina hard headed. Both are correct. Sefina is one of the most well-rounded fighters in GDL and can you beat you in any type of fight. Bully can knock your teeth out and, although he prefers not going to the ground, can make an opponent tap if he has too.
Cosmo vs 4M – Together, the two 155 pounders have combined for a record 10,000 clean head punches to Nicky Papas in their last three wins. Cosmo hasn’t fought since July and it’s always a toss-up as to whether the long time away from the ring will help or hinder. Maximus Jr is betting on the latter, claiming Cosmo’s wins should be expunged from the record.
Kongo vs Drax – Tarik Kongo is either training his ass off, or fattening up on the couch. His energy level heading into the weekend is scary and he’s going to need to focus to avoid getting his head popped by Max Drax. Drax’s heavy hands know nothing except knocking people out.
Mein Armbach vs Ando – A GDL lifer, Mein Armbach is the most fun name to say and heads into this 170 matchup with his eye back on the ball. A momentary lapse of concentration cost him a win in his last matchup and he’ll need his full focus to cripple Momofuku Ando. Ando is a standup brawler and has been a fan favorite since being bought out and put under new manager, John Wayne.
Dukes vs Keskinen – Dukes outfought Relma Polka in GDL 52, upping his undefeated streak to six. Keskinen, Polka’s stablemate, is making his GDL debut after a successful international run. This one has fight of the night written all over it. As Old Macdonald says, “a punch punch here, and a punch punch there. Here a punch, there a punch, everywhere a punch punch.”
170 Title:
Fist vs MacArthur – Fist asked for this fight personally. Since winning the title nearly a year ago, Fist has pounded the living snot out of everyone dumb enough to get in the ring with him. MacArthur is anything but dumb and will be looking to outsmart Fist to give him his first loss. Will he make his clan proud? Will Fist underestimate his opponent? Will Grumpy Bastard reimburse GDL for the “ladies” in the lockeroom?
205 Title:
Byczkiewicz vs Gomez – Newly re-signed and face of the GDL, Blazej Byczkiewicz is defending his 205 lb title for the sixth time. This time against #1 contender, Tonny Gomez. Gomez is hoping his House of Change philosophy carries over to the ring and his near-perfect punching acumen catches the Polish punk on his heels. It’s a tall task, Byczkiewicz has no real holes, but Gomez has the skills to pull it off.
185 Title:
Legba vs Muhapuro – The rubber match between two of the best. Papa Legba made Muhapuro tap at GDL 13 to win the Middleweight title. Muhapuro reclaimed the belt at GDL 38, winning the five-round match by keeping Legba honest on the ground. Legba’s submissions are legendary, Muhapuro will stand and destroy you. Who will come out on top?
