The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tane moves away from the strike by Mad Cow. Mad Cow fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Tane looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Mad Cow fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Mad Cow misses with a head kick.
Tane has his takedown stuffed and Mad Cow counters with a two punch combo. Tane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mad Cow tries to avoid it but Tane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mad Cow to the ground. Mad Cow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Tane misses with a takedown attempt - Mad Cow sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kitsu Tane. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mad Cow throws a nice looking combination but Tane bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Tane goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Tane uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mad Cow. Mad Cow tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tane paws at him with a jab and circles away.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mad Cow trying to pass the guard but Tane defending well. Tane wants to take a breather but Mad Cow is having none of it. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Tane thumps the canvas. Mad Cow has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tane is working away from the top position though. That's two minutes gone in the round. Tane controlling the position from side mount. Mad Cow is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tane decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mad Cow to his feet.

It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mad Cow wants it to stay on the feet. Mad Cow throws a right hand that Tane ducks under and follows up with a left that Tane also avoids with ease. Tane fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mad Cow sprawls well initially but Tane persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Tane missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Tane scores to the head and body with a nice combination! This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Tane creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. The referee is keeping an eye on Tane - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Tane is working for takedown but Mad Cow is calmly controlling the position for now. Tane is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Tane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Tane forces Mad Cow back against the cage and clinches. Mad Cow gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tane.

That was a close round but I would say that Timmy Smithy will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lee fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Grepplund manages to avoid it. Lee drops his hands momentarily and Grepplund takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
