11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cottoneye Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Schmidt! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joe throws a jab but it's blocked by Schmidt. Joe throws a right and a left that Schmidt avoids nicely. Joe moves in looking to clinch but Schmidt pushes him off. Schmidt lands a jab to the head.
Joe shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schmidt pinned against the cage. Schmidt gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Schmidt has Joe up against the cage in a clinch.
Joe throws a head punch that misses. Schmidt wants to stall.
Schmidt creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Joe's defenses.
It looks like Cottoneye Joe has been cut. Joe tries to land a knee to the head but Schmidt blocks with his arms.
Joe's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Joe tries to clinch but Schmidt moves out of range. Schmidt slips a jab and a cross from Joe.
Joe takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Joe is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Schmidt. Schmidt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Joe circles away quickly and effectively. Schmidt misses with a double jab.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmidt with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Schmidt works a leg free and moves into half guard. Schmidt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Joe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Joe gets back to full guard.
Joe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schmidt wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. Joe working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Schmidt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Schmidt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Joe keeping full guard, as Schmidt tries to pass.

Schmidt fails to advance to Joe's back. Schmidt working for a submission but Joe is keeping him at bay. Joe slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Schmidt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Joe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Joe is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Schmidt's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Schmidt's back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmidt tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Joe throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Joe looking to secure an arm triangle but Schmidt defends it well. Schmidt is wriggling around trying to escape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Joe with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
A nice elbow there by Joe. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Schmidt is looking to improve his position but Joe isn't that keen on the idea. Schmidt tries to lock up and control but Joe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. That was a close second round but I would say that Cottoneye Joe will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Joe sees it coming and avoids it easily. Joe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Schmidt. Joe has a takedown stuffed. Joe wants to clinch. Schmidt feints a jab promting Joe to slip. Schmidt then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Joe slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Good standup being displayed there by Schmidt as he connects with a hook. Joe takes one on the button. Schmidt smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Schmidt might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Joe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The crowd cheers as Nikifor lands an impressive looking overhand right. Syren doesn't seem phased though.
And that's the end of the fight! Jussi Syren comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Syren has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
