3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Petr Huisbrink! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Huisbrink lands a glancing blow to the side of Pickering's head.
It looks like Oliver Pickering has been cut. Pickering shoots in for a double leg but Huisbrink sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Pickering moves out of range of the strikes. Pickering looking to score a takedown here. Huisbrink is defending well but Pickering drives through and ends up in Huisbrink's guard. Huisbrink looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pickering is one step ahead there. Huisbrink wants to stand up but Pickering is controlling him. Huisbrink controlling the position. Pickering content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Huisbrink is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Pickering advances position into side control! Huisbrink trying to remain calm as Pickering controls from the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pickering is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Huisbrink has escaped the position, nice work there. Pickering remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Huisbrink can't do much from the bottom here. Pickering postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Huisbrink dodges the ground and pound from Pickering.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Huisbrink struggling a bit here. Pickering wants to lay and pray for a moment but Huisbrink keeps working. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huisbrink can do anything to dispel that myth. Pickering cracks Huisbrink with a big elbow. Pickering is looking to take a break and control but Huisbrink is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pickering wants to stand but Huisbrink has his arm trapped. Pickering tries to move into full mount but can't pass Huisbrink's legs. Pickering working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pickering wants to lay and pray for a moment but Huisbrink keeps working. Pickering fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Huisbrink tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pickering wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Pickering sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Huisbrink is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Pickering is putting a hurting on Huisbrink here, landing some big shots from side control. Huisbrink keeps Pickering under control for a moment. Pickering is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Huisbrink has escaped the position, nice work there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pickering working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Pickering working the head with strikes. Pickering trying to control the action but Huisbrink is working from the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Huisbrink is not in a great position here, taking some shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Oliver Pickering dominated that round. The cut man is working on Oliver Pickering's cut. That's time! Pickering's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Huisbrink lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Pickering fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Huisbrink avoids it really well and circles away. Huisbrink tests Pickering's chin there with a solid looking shot. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Pickering misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Pickering tries for a takedown but Huisbrink circles away easily letting Huisbrink counter with a right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oliver Pickering. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pickering looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Huisbrink is fending him off so far but Pickering persists. Nope, Huisbrink circles away and we're back to standing. A little jabbing left from Huisbrink on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Pickering doesn't succeed with the takedown and Huisbrink counters with a lovely straight right hand! Huisbrink connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Huisbrink throws a good cross that connects.
Pickering shoots and misses and Huisbrink counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Huisbrink slaps away a takedown attempt from Pickering, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice straight punches there by Huisbrink. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Huisbrink. Huisbrink scores with a nice head shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pickering on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Pickering shoots and misses and Huisbrink connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pickering walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Huisbrink jabs Pickering right on the nose. Pickering blinks but takes it well.
Pickering is rocked! Huisbrink lands a right hook to the body.
Huisbrink connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Oh Pickering is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Nice shot lands for Huisbrink. Huisbrink connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Oliver Pickering is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pickering is defended easily by Huisbrink. No luck for Pickering with that takedown attempt. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pickering takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Pickering takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Huisbrink uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pickering has time to react. Pickering tries to score a power double leg takedown but Huisbrink sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pickering somewhat. A little jabbing left from Huisbrink on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Huisbrink cracks Pickering with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Pickering tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Huisbrink pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Pickering is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
