PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Rodrigues (ranked 174 p4p, 25 weight class) and Slash Slingin (ranked 536 p4p, 86 weight class). Slingin has chosen Drop The World as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel Rodrigues!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Slash Slingin!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Joseph Jones and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slingin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rodrigues manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Slingin wants to control from the top but Rodrigues keeps moving.
Slingin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rodrigues haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Slingin working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodrigues has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Slingin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodrigues has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Slingin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rodrigues.

Rodrigues jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Slingin walks away with a smile on his face. Rodrigues gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Slingin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodrigues tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Slingin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Rodrigues checks a leg kick.
Rodrigues tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Slingin manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Slingin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rodrigues with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
