PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Henry (ranked 1962 p4p, 2835 weight class) and Darken Rahl (ranked 224 p4p, 295 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that John Henry has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily John Henry seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rahl counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Henry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rahl. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rahl working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Rahl not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Rahl working Henry over with strikes. Ground and pound from Rahl. Rahl seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Rahl is pressing down on Henry's thigh, looking to free his foot. Henry is holding on for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rahl connects with a nice short shot to Henry's temple. Rahl thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henry's head. Rahl is nestled in close to Henry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rahl looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Henry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Henry is rocked! Rahl lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Henry! More strikes land and this one is all over! Rahl jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darken Rahl! Darken Rahl is the new featherweight champion! In defeat, John Henry stepped up to the mic, saying 'Hang down your head John Henry'.
