PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Rabbit (ranked 3091 p4p, 3170 weight class) and Kaoru Nagashima (ranked 315 p4p, 324 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ramon Rabbit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaoru Nagashima!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Donatello Bradman and Topper Green.

Rabbit cracks Nagashima with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Rabbit lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Nagashima shoots in looking for a takedown but Rabbit manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nagashima's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Nagashima stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Rabbit.

Nagashima changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rabbit tries to avoid it but Nagashima manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rabbit to the ground. Rabbit escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ramon Rabbit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kaoru Nagashima.
Rabbit looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nagashima walks into a stiff left hand from Rabbit.
Rabbit scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Rabbit goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Rabbit connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nagashima is defended easily by Rabbit.
Nagashima moves out of range as Rabbit throws a body kick.
Rabbit fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Rabbit has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Rabbit defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nagashima.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rabbit lands a leg kick that knocks Nagashima off balance momentarily.
Nagashima chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rabbit can pounce on him.
Rabbit connects with the punch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nagashima or perhaps it was just good defense by Rabbit, which made it look bad.

Rabbit fakes the leg kick and cracks Nagashima in the body.
Nagashima shoots in for a double leg but Rabbit sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Rabbit stalks Nagashima and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Nagashima's face. Nagashima staggers backwards, shaken.
Ramon Rabbit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Nagashima.
Nagashima just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromRabbit.

Nagashima shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rabbit counters with a body kick.
Rabbit delivers a nice body kick.
Rabbit lands with a cross.
Rabbit really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rabbit shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Nagashima eats them both and turns towards Rabbit to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Rabbit throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Nagashima takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Rabbit connects with an inside leg kick.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Rabbit.

Rabbit throws a head kick that Nagashima semi-blocks.

Rabbit lands a jab to Nagashima's midsection.

Nagashima throws a right hand that Rabbit ducks under and follows up with a left that Rabbit also avoids with ease.
Nagashima's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Nagashima moves in looking to clinch but Rabbit pushes him off.
Rabbit lets loose with a powerful body kick. Nagashima will feel that in the morning.
Rabbit lands with a kick to the ribs.
Rabbit fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Nagashima takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Rabbit lands a head shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nagashima misses with a takedown
and Nagashima takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rabbit scores with a push kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Rabbit dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nagashima shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Nagashima is looking for a kimura but Rabbit is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nagashima to get the leverage.
Rabbit won't allow Nagashima to pass to mount.
Nagashima lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Nagashima is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nagashima is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rabbit is staying active underneath Nagashima, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Nagashima seems to be looking for submissions.

Nagashima is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Rabbit is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kaoru Nagashima!
Kaoru Nagashima tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
