PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trond Asmundsen (ranked 1125 p4p, 3206 weight class) and Bill Beukeboom (ranked 152 p4p, 397 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Asmundsen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

We've been hearing that Asmundsen has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Beukeboom really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Asmundsen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Asmundsen is controlling the pace.
Asmundsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Beukeboom can do anything to dispel that myth.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Asmundsen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Beukeboom.

Beukeboom is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Asmundsen.
Asmundsen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The fighters circle momentarily. Asmundsen darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Beukeboom throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Asmundsen on the side of the head.

It looks like Trond Asmundsen has been cut.
Bill Beukeboom is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Asmundsen throws a lazy right hand but Beukeboom sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Asmundsen wants to clinch up but Beukeboom keeps it at a distance.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Beukeboom counters with a crisp right hand that drops Asmundsen! Beukeboom lets Asmundsen back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Trond Asmundsen will probably get the nod.

That's time! Asmundsen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Asmundsen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Asmundsen. Beukeboom does a little dance to reset his feet.
Beukeboom doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Beukeboom lands with an uppercut that bounces Asmundsen off the cage and back into range.

Asmundsen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Beukeboom manages to avoid it.
Beukeboom throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Beukeboom throws an overhand right that drops Asmundsen like a sack of potatoes! Beukeboom dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
