PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Brandstrup (ranked 4805 p4p, 5007 weight class) and Ubereem Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Brandstrup!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ubereem Rua !
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rua shoots in and drives through. Brandstrup sprawls well.

Rua drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rua is looking to take a break and control but Brandstrup is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rua tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brandstrup sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Rua is going to stand back up.
Rua tries to pass to full mount but Brandstrup defends it.

Rua wants to work for an arm triangle but Brandstrup is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brandstrup keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Rua is working for a submission of some sort.
Brandstrup has his hands clasped together around Rua 's back. He's all about the action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rua is trying to control the action in half guard but Brandstrup is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Rua is keen to just control but Brandstrup is a slippery customer.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Brandstrup avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rua .
Rua wants to take a breather but Brandstrup is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rua avoids the head kick by Brandstrup.

Brandstrup looks for a takedown but Rua sprawls well.

Rua gets tackled into the cage by Brandstrup. Brandstrup maintains the clinch.

Brandstrup wants to take the fight to the mat but Rua manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Rua tries for a kimura but Brandstrup is defending well.

Rua working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Rua is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brandstrup knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Brandstrup is not content to let Rua control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

The fight stays on the outside here - Rua looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rua gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brandstrup to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rua looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brandstrup is one step ahead there.
Brandstrup would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Brandstrup has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Brandstrup is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rua shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Brandstrup is trying to defend but Rua finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Rua frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Rua wants to control the pace but Brandstrup is squirming around nicely.
Rua sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Rua throwing strikes here but Brandstrup is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Brandstrup looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Rua has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Brandstrup is in real trouble here. Rua gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Brandstrup is tapping out! Rua wins by rear naked choke!
