PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Teshima Shigochiyo (ranked 1528 p4p, 1219 weight class) and Justin Case (ranked 173 p4p, 151 weight class). Shigochiyo comes to the cage accompanied by Yoshida Brothers - Rising. Case has chosen Rush - Closer to the Heart as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Teshima Shigochiyo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Case!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.

Case throws a hook to the side of Shigochiyo's head but Shigochiyo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shigochiyo appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Case lands a nice hook to Shigochiyo's body. Shigochiyo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A left lands for Case.
Case fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Shigochiyo on the side of the head.
Shigochiyo takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Case loads up on a big right hand but Shigochiyo slips the punch.
Shigochiyo takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Shigochiyo shoots in but no luck this time.
Shigochiyo uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Case.
The fighters circling - Case throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Shigochiyo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Case.
Justin Case is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Case throws a right and a left that Shigochiyo avoids nicely.
Shigochiyo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Case scores with the left hand. Shigochiyo knows he should have avoided that one.

Case closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Case misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Case.
A left hand lands to the body for Case.
Shigochiyo is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Teshima Shigochiyo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Case throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
A nice right hand lands inside from Case.
Shigochiyo blocking some punches.
Case makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Case doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Case tries a body shot but Shigochiyo blocks it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shigochiyo is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Case is defending well.
Case lands with a left to the head.
Case lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Shigochiyo backwards.
Case stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Case has a couple of punches blocked by Shigochiyo.

Come on Shigochiyo - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Case lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Shigochiyo or not.
Case lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Case tries to throw a body punch but Shigochiyo avoids it by throwing Case back against the cage.
Case scores with a nice hook to the head.
Shigochiyo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Case gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Case misses with some punches.
Case throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Case.
Case lands a body punch.
Case tries to work over Shigochiyo's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Case lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Shigochiyo is breathing heavily.
Case gets through Shigochiyo's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Case lands a right hand that snaps the head of Shigochiyo backwards.
Shigochiyo is trying to drag Case to the mat but Case just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Case lands a body shot.
Case tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Shigochiyo's elbow.
Shigochiyo stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Case dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Case throws a leg kick

and Shigochiyo counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Shigochiyo being controlled here momentarily.
Case keeping moving, preventing Shigochiyo from controlling successfully.
Case has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Shigochiyo is really struggling to control Case but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Case can't keep his opponent in guard - Shigochiyo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Shigochiyo prevents Case from improving his position.
Case felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Case is not content to let Shigochiyo control the position.

Case is defending against the submission attempts here by Shigochiyo.
Shigochiyo trying to control the action but Case is working from the bottom.
Case is controlling Shigochiyo's position as best he can from this difficult position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Case can do anything to dispel that myth.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Case is continuing to stall.

Shigochiyo seems to be looking for submissions.

Shigochiyo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Shigochiyo seems to be working for a kimura but Case defends the submission attempt.
Case is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Shigochiyo is working for a kimura but Case is defending it quite comfortably.

Shigochiyo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Case has managed to free his arm - good work.
Shigochiyo is just content to waste time from the top position. Case takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Case really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shigochiyo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shigochiyo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Case dives on top into guard.


Shigochiyo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Shigochiyo has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Case should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Shigochiyo has tightened it up now! Case should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
