This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 29 wins and 21 losses; Dado Mata! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 1 losses; John Lee! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Frank Antenori.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? The fight stays on the outside here - Lee looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Lee looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mata is fending him off so far but Lee persists. Nope, Mata circles away and we're back to standing. Lee gets caught flat footed, as Mata shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mata (2) vs (0) Lee The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mata trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lee working a defensive guard here.
Mata pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lee is keeping the position for now. Lee is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Mata (2) vs (2) Lee We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mata has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lee is working away from the top position though. Lee wants to work for an arm triangle but Mata is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Mata moves into full guard.
Mata keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully. Lee wants to pass the guard but Mata is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Mata is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mata is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Score +3 for passing guard: Mata (2) vs (5) Lee The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Lee tries to advance to mount but Mata denies him. Lee looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Mata is looking to regain half guard here but Lee keeps moving and retains side control. Lee has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Mata! Score +2 for reaching mount: Mata (2) vs (7) Lee Lee is looking to work his way around to Mata's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Lee trying to control but Mata is having none of it. Mata gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lee is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mata defends it well. Mata is pressing down on Lee's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Mata looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Mata is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lee passes Mata's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Mata wants to get back to full guard. Lee is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mata! Score +3 for passing guard: Mata (2) vs (10) Lee
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lee tries to control but Mata wriggling away. Mata manages to regain half guard. Good work. Lee prevents Mata from improving his position. Mata is in trouble now - Lee has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Mata (2) vs (13) Lee Lee wants to take Mata's back but he can't do it this time. Lee wants to control the pace but Mata is squirming around nicely. Mata bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Mata (4) vs (13) Lee
That's five minutes gone in the round. Mata trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lee keeping full guard, as Mata tries to pass. Mata stopping the sweep attempt from Lee. Mata sitting in guard, not really doing much. Lee is trying to push Mata off with his feet but Mata grabs hold of one of the legs and drops back looking for a submission! He's cranking on one of Lee's ankles and Lee is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaall over!
