PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Rourke (ranked 4312 p4p, 4552 weight class) and Hunk Hunky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Rourke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hunk Hunky!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rourke throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hunky was covering up waiting for the punch and Rourke finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hunky wants to stand and escape but Rourke is having none of it.
Rourke is stalling in the full guard.

Hunky is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rourke has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hunky lands with a heel strike from the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunky throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hunky has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rourke is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rourke has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rourke's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Rourke won't allow Hunky to get back to his feet.
Rourke is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hunky can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rourke controls the pace.
Rourke seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hunky for as long as he can get away with.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hunky closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rourke's guard.

Hunky is trying to drag Rourke to the mat but Rourke just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Rourke gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hunky.

Rourke takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rourke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hunky looks like he's trying to stand up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Hunky is looking to improve his position.
Rourke takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rourke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Hunky gets tackled into the cage by Rourke. Rourke maintains the clinch.

Rourke has Hunky pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rourke pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hunky tumbling to the mat - Rourke dives into Hunky's guard.

Rourke darts in and clinches Hunky up against the cage.
Rourke is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hunky gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hunky has had enough of the clinch but Rourke keeps him there for the moment.

Andrew Rourke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You can see the frustration on Hunky's face as Rourke controls the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rourke moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Hunky has worked his arm free - good work by Hunky!
Rourke takes a little break here. Hunky wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Hunky manages to work his way to half guard, despite Rourke's best efforts.

Rourke is working for a submission of some sort.
Hunky trying to hold on to Rourke's head to control him but Rourke postures up.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hunky throws a half hearted mid kick.
Hunk Hunky is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rourke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hunky.

Rourke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Rourke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hunky defends it well.

Hunky has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Rourke has passed into side control.
Rourke is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Rourke has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hunky is trying to keep an underhook but Rourke manages to get the takedown into half guard.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Rourke.
Rourke is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hunky can do to turn this around?

Rourke slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hunky tries a head kick but it misses.
As Hunky tries to get set, Rourke tries to push him back and clinch up but Hunky manages to avoid the attempt.

and Rourke counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hunky won't be happy with that.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hunky is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hunky manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Rourke makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Hunky shoots in looking for a takedown. Rourke tries to sprawl out of it but Hunky keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rourke manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hunky fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hunky looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rourke is fending him off so far but Hunky persists. Nope, Rourke circles away and we're back to standing.

Rourke moves into the clinch.
Hunky should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hunky fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Rourke turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rourke manages to end up in side control.

Well Rourke has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
