PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Claudio Puelles (ranked 24701 p4p, 24563 weight class) and Zayaan Reese (ranked 712 p4p, 696 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Claudio Puelles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zayaan Reese!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puelles walks into a stiff left hand from Reese.
Reese lands a nice shot that snaps Puelles's head back.
Reese has a takedown stuffed.
Puelles throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Reese stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Puelles misses with a double jab.
Reese lands a leg kick that knocks Puelles off balance momentarily.
Reese shoots in for a double leg but Puelles sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Puelles wants to sweep but no luck.

It looks like Reese might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

We've been told by Puelles's head coaches at LA Wellness Centre that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Reese looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Puelles is fending him off so far but Reese persists. Nope, Puelles circles away and we're back to standing.

Zayaan Reese dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Reese throws a low kick but Puelles avoids it.
Reese has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Puelles counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

As Reese backs away, Puelles returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Reese feints a jab promting Puelles to slip. Reese then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Puelles slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Puelles has a takedown stuffed.
Puelles tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reese sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Puelles somewhat.
Reese throws a one two combo.
Reese has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Puelles walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Puelles throws a body punch but Reese moves out of range.
Reese looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Reese tries to close the distance and clinch up but Puelles swats him away and circles back towards the center.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Reese lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Zayaan Reese comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Reese has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Zayaan Reese decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
