PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alla Pugacheva (ranked 1649 p4p, 1144 weight class) and Thomas Maeda (ranked 189 p4p, 138 weight class). Maeda comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Submission kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alla Pugacheva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pugacheva slips a jab and a cross from Maeda.

Maeda gets a double leg takedown into Pugacheva's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maeda sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pugacheva's guard.
Maeda is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Maeda wants to pass to mount but Pugacheva is defending the position.

Maeda is keen to just control but Pugacheva is a slippery customer.

Maeda throws a hook but Pugacheva avoids it easily.
Pugacheva throws a counter high kick but Maeda was just alert enough to avoid it.
Pugacheva displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Maeda throws out the jab.

Pugacheva throws a low kick but Maeda moves out of range easily.
Maeda takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Maeda takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Pugacheva takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Maeda throws a jab but it's blocked by Pugacheva.
Pugacheva throws a front kick aimed at Maeda's knee but Maeda avoids it well.

Pugacheva rushes Maeda and presses him up against the cage.
Maeda has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Maeda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maeda throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pugacheva stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Maeda ducks right into an uppercut from Pugacheva.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maeda avoids the head kick by Pugacheva.
Maeda throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Pugacheva counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Maeda is looking to clinch.
Maeda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Pugacheva defends it nicely.
Pugacheva keeps the fight on the outside.
Alla Pugacheva is winning the standup battle so far.
Maeda misses with a looping left.

Pugacheva has managed to clinch.
Pugacheva displaying some good clinch control by pressing Maeda up against the cage.
Maeda goes for a takedown attempt but Pugacheva pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Maeda ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Maeda is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Pugacheva with a body shot.
Pugacheva throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Maeda shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pugacheva counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Alla Pugacheva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Maeda.
Pugacheva avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Maeda prevents a body shot from Pugacheva.
Maeda misses with a punch to the body.

Pugacheva manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Pugacheva seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Maeda is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pugacheva is defending well.
Pugacheva is pressed up against the cage. Maeda has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pugacheva down to the mat. Pugacheva avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Pugacheva is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Oooooh!!! Pugacheva has knocked Maeda down with a huge combo! Pugacheva steps away and waves a wobbly Maeda back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Maeda is rocked!
Pugacheva closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Maeda! Pugacheva dives in looking to finish! Maeda is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alla Pugacheva!
In defeat, Thomas Maeda stepped up to the mic, saying 'Through Japanese translator to English. "My opponent was better today. I will not underestimate him next time"'.
