Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Cardozo (ranked 1578 p4p, 883 weight class) and Vasili Lobchov (ranked 230 p4p, 127 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Douglas Cardozo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Vasili Lobchov! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lobchov throws a jab when Cardozo was well out of range. Cardozo swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nice shot by Lobchov. Lobchov scores with a punch to the head. Lobchov throws an off balance right hand
and Cardozo counters with a lovely straight right hand! Lobchov uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cardozo. Cardozo scores with a hook. A swing and a miss from Lobchov. Vasili Lobchov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lobchov fails to land with a series of punches.
Cardozo drops down looking for a counter takedown but Lobchov sprawls and moves away. Lobchov throws a lazy right hand but Cardozo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cardozo was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Cardozo jabbing away but nothing is landing. Cardozo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lobchov.
It looked like Cardozo was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Lobchov. A looping hook to the body misses from Cardozo. Lobchov does a little dance to reset his feet. Lobchov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Cardozo throws a shot from downtown. Lobchov moves away and avoids it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cardozo smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Lobchov misses the body punch and Cardozo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Vasili Lobchov has been cut.

and Cardozo counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Lobchov! Cardozo lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Lobchov down.
Lobchov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cardozo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Lobchov struggling a bit here. Cardozo trying to control the action but Lobchov is working from the bottom. Cardozo works to advance to full mount. Lobchov defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Cardozo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lobchov to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lobchov shrugs it off. Cardozo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lobchov has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Cardozo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Lobchov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cardozo stacks Lobchov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cardozo! Lobchov can't do much from the bottom here. Cardozo landing strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cardozo advances to full mount. No, Lobchov has managed to get both his arms back between Cardozo's legs - danger averted. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. Lobchov wants to stand but Cardozo is controlling his posture from full guard. Cardozo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lobchov's guard.
