PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roc Le Phat (ranked 1361 p4p, 481 weight class) and Donnie Larkin (ranked 182 p4p, 65 weight class). Le Phat comes into the arena with Bonita Applebum blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roc Le Phat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Donnie Larkin!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Larkin fails with a takedown attempt.
Larkin misses with a wild body shot.
Le Phat swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Larkin throws a jab when Le Phat was well out of range.
Le Phat looks to score with a jab to the body but Larkin is just out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Larkin has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Le Phat stuffs the takedown.
Le Phat takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Le Phat connects with a leg kick.
Le Phat goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Le Phat looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Le Phat scoring well with a low kick there.
Le Phat keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Roc Le Phat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Donnie Larkin.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Larkin is defended easily by Le Phat.
An attempted straight right counter from Le Phat misses the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Le Phat avoids the head kick by Larkin.
Larkin doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Le Phat misses with a hook.
Larkin follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Le Phat just misses with a punch to the body.
Larkin throws a sloppy head kick and Le Phat moves out of range easily.

Le Phat fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Larkin sprawls well initially but Le Phat persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Le Phat thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Larkin's head.
Le Phat throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Le Phat is keen to just control but Larkin is a slippery customer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Le Phat connects with a nice short shot to Larkin's temple.

Le Phat wants to pass the guard but Larkin is defending well.

Le Phat is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Le Phat wants to control from the top but Larkin keeps moving.

Le Phat is looking to pass into half guard but Larkin pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Larkin is in guard.


Le Phat throws his legs up looking for a submission but Larkin uses it to pass to side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Larkin staying calm.
Larkin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Le Phat tries to buck Larkin off but Larkin is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Le Phat takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Le Phat is trying to work for a sweep but Larkin has mounted him!
Larkin tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Le Phat is desperately trying to improve his position but Larkin has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Larkin in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Le Phat tries to reverse the position but Larkin maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Larkin lands a couple of good shots and Le Phat has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Larkin is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Larkin lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Le Phat breaks Larkin's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Larkin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Le Phat looking to improve position, pressing down on Larkin's thigh with his hand. Larkin seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Le Phat paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Le Phat's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Larkin picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Donnie Larkin!
A less than humble Donnie Larkin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
