Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kendo Hirigushi (ranked 251 p4p, 713 weight class) and Steven Petersen (ranked 3 p4p, 18 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 29 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Kendo Hirigushi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steven Petersen! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hirigushi misses with a hook. Hirigushi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Petersen moves away. Petersen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hirigushi. Petersen now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Hirigushi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Petersen, pushing him back against the cage. Hirigushi swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Petersen pushes Hirigushi back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Petersen stalling in the clinch but Hirigushi improves position. Hirigushi scores with an uppercut up the middle. Hirigushi misses with a punch to the body.

Hirigushi lands a nice shot to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Petersen working some nice short punches in the clinch. Petersen tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hirigushi avoids it. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Hirigushi creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Petersen misses with a hook from the clinch. I was talking to Hirigushi's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. A body shot lands from Petersen.
Hirigushi takes a shot to the head. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hirigushi. Hirigushi keeps control of Petersen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hirigushi lands with a light punch inside. Petersen slowing the pace effectively. Petersen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hirigushi tries a body shot but Petersen blocks it.

It looks like Steven Petersen has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Petersen ducks under a wild hook from Hirigushi. Petersen thows a left - swing and a miss! Petersen throws a hook but Hirigushi avoids it easily. Petersen scores with a nice strike. Hirigushi misses with a straight right. Petersen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Petersen misses with a straight right. Hirigushi closes the distance and clinches. Petersen blocking some punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kendo Hirigushi dominated that round. The cut man is working on Steven Petersen's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Petersen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
An attempted straight right counter from Hirigushi misses the target. Petersen moves out of range of the strikes. As Hirigushi backs off Petersen throws a huge counter combo but Hirigushi manages to avoid it all. Petersen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hirigushi moves away. Hirigushi avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Nice straight punches there by Hirigushi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hirigushi. A leg kick checked by Hirigushi. Hirigushi throws a big shot that misses. Hirigushi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Petersen. Hirigushi takes the fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hirigushi misses with a hook to the ribs.

Kendo Hirigushi has scored more points in the clinch so far. Petersen's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Hirigushi makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Petersen is leaning against Hirigushi and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Hirigushi is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Petersen can do to turn this around? Petersen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hirigushi lands with a right hand. Petersen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Petersen drops his hands momentarily and Hirigushi takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Petersen is rocked! Hirigushi works Petersen's body with a nice hook. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Petersen scores with the left hand. Hirigushi knows he should have avoided that one. Petersen throws a body punch but Hirigushi moves out of range. Hirigushi lands a nice shot that snaps Petersen's head back.

and Petersen counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A big right from Petersen misses. Hirigushi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Petersen manages to avoid it. Petersen motions for Hirigushi to come forward. Petersen throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Petersen ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Hirigushi chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Petersen can pounce on him.
Hirigushi jabbing away but nothing is landing. Petersen feints and then cracks Hirigushi's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hirigushi down. Nice shot lands for Petersen. Nice body punch from Hirigushi. Petersen slips a jab from Hirigushi. Petersen is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Hirigushi with a body shot. Hirigushi misses with a wild combination.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A punch combination from Hirigushi misses. Kendo Hirigushi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hirigushi misses with a hook
and Petersen counters with a good low kick that Hirigushi was not able to check. Hirigushi throws a jab when Petersen was well out of range. Petersen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Petersen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hirigushi on the side of the head. Petersen slips a jab from Hirigushi. Hirigushi swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hirigushi throws out a loose jab but Petersen uses good head movement to avoid it. Petersen throws a low kick but Hirigushi avoids it. Petersen moves forwards but Hirigushi connects with a nice, crisp jab. Hirigushi blocks a jab. Petersen throws a leg kick that is checked enabling Hirigushi to counter with a crisp jab. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hirigushi tries to clinch up. Hirigushi looks to throw the jab but Petersen is out of range. Hirigushi gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Petersen throws a quick inside leg kick. Hirigushi looks to score with a jab to the body but Petersen is just out of range. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

This is the final round! Petersen pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Petersen jabs Hirigushi to the body, keeping him at a distance. Petersen misses with an uppercut
and Hirigushi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Kendo Hirigushi is winning the standup battle so far. Hirigushi throws a series of punches but Petersen avoids them all with ease. Hirigushi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Hirigushi misses with a hook. Hirigushi tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Petersen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Petersen dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Petersen connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Petersen thows a left - swing and a miss!
That's one minute gone in the round. Petersen cracks a nice hook into Hirigushi's ribs. Nice cross by Hirigushi. Hirigushi lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hirigushi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Petersen doesn't seem bothered though. Petersen throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Hirigushi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Good exchange - Hirigushi coming out on top. Petersen is still on wobbly legs! Can Hirigushi finish him? Petersen changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Petersen seems to have recovered his senses. Hirigushi wants to clinch up but Petersen keeps it at a distance. Hirigushi's corner calls for a 1-2. Hirigushi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. This has been an exciting period of action! Hirigushi thows a left - swing and a miss! Petersen doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Hirigushi swings and misses with a shot to the body and Petersen counters with a left and a right that stings Hirigushi. Petersen swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hirigushi.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Petersen clobbers Hirigushi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hirigushi is rocked! Hirigushi tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Petersen counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Oh Hirigushi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Nice shot lands for Hirigushi. Hirigushi seems to have got his legs back now. Hirigushi throws the left hand but Petersen avoids the punch easily. Hirigushi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Hirigushi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Petersen throws a right hand that Hirigushi ducks under and follows up with a left that Hirigushi also avoids with ease.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Petersen scores with the left hand. Hirigushi knows he should have avoided that one. Hirigushi tries to clinch but Petersen moves out of range. Hirigushi stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Petersen. Petersen misses with a hook. Some wild striking there from Hirigushi.
Hirigushi throws a series of punches but Petersen avoids them all with ease. Hirigushi falls off balance throwing a combination
and Petersen counters with a left and a right that stings Hirigushi. Kendo Hirigushi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Petersen plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Petersen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hirigushi. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Petersen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hirigushi has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hirigushi and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Petersen misses with an uppercut. Hirigushi saw that one coming. Hirigushi scores with a one two! Petersen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Petersen takes a swing at Hirigushi's ribcage but misses. Hirigushi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Petersen paws at him with a jab and circles away. A little jabbing left from Petersen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Hirigushi misses with the combination.
Steven Petersen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Hirigushi slips under a jab from Petersen. Petersen throws a leg kick that misses. Petersen loads up on a big right hand but Hirigushi slips the punch. Hirigushi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hirigushi throws a body shot but no joy. It seemed like Petersen was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Steven Petersen. Well Hirigushi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
