PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marckus Reece (ranked 24067 p4p, 3391 weight class) and Viktor Volkov (ranked 723 p4p, 419 weight class). Volkov has chosen Kickstart my heart as his entrance music. Marckus Reece has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marckus Reece!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Viktor Volkov!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reece fails in his attempt to clinch.
Volkov turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Volkov misses with a head kick.
Reece misses with a head kick.
No luck for Volkov with that takedown attempt.

Volkov shoots in and bounces Reece off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Reece pulls Volkov in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Volkov wants to control from the top but Reece keeps moving.

Reece has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Volkov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Volkov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Reece keeping moving, preventing Volkov from controlling successfully.

Reece is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Reece being controlled here, momentarily.
Volkov trying to control the position from guard on top but Reece is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reece not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Reece shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Volkov as he jumps to the side.
Reece tries to clinch there but Volkov circles away.
Volkov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Reece sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Volkov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reece was covering up waiting for the punch and Volkov finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Reece bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Volkov's guard.

Volkov is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Volkov looking to control but Reece passes into half guard.

Reece content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Volkov is trying is best to control the position here.
Volkov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Volkov wants to control but Reece is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reece wants to control but Volkov is keeping him busy.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A close round but Viktor Volkov will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Reece bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Volkov has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Volkov is looking to reverse the position.
Reece looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Volkov is avoiding damage well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Volkov is trying to control Reece's posture but Reece avoids it.

Reece has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reece looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Volkov shoots for a double leg takedown but Reece sprawls well. He's pushed Volkov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Reece shoots for a takedown but Volkov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Reece leaves Volkov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Reece is looking to counter the offense by Volkov and move into the clinch.
Marckus Reece has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viktor Volkov.
Volkov is breathing heavily.

Volkov rushes Reece and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Volkov is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Reece can't fight it off and eventually Volkov manages to take the fight to the floor. Reece looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are working up against the ropes. Reece manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the ropes.
Reece is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Volkov can do to turn this around?

Reece lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Volkov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Reece stacks Volkov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Reece!
Volkov dodges the ground and pound from Reece.

Reece decides to stand back up.
Reece tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Volkov swivels and escapes.
Reece misses with a body shot.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Volkov.
Volkov blocks a head kick by Reece.
Volkov wants to counter the offense by Reece and move into the clinch position.
Volkov closes the distance and clinches up with Reece, looking for a takedown. Volkov pushes Reece against the ropes but Reece circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Reece stuffs the takedown.
Volkov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Reece tries to avoid it but Volkov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Reece to the ground. Reece escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Reece drives through with a takedown into Volkov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Reece passes easily into side control. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Volkov with a poor takedown
and Reece counters with a series of strikes. Volkov will be more careful next time no doubt.
Volkov shoots in looking for a takedown. Reece tries to sprawl out of it but Volkov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Reece manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Reece.
Reece throws a wild body kick that Volkov sees coming a mile off.
Volkov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Reece swivels and escapes.

Marckus Reece overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Volkov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Volkov is trying to control the position but Reece postures up.

Volkov throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Reece escapes and throws Volkov's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Reece wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Volkov, who protects the arm well.

Reece has hold of Volkov's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Volkov seems comfortable defending it but Reece has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Volkov is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Volkov is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Reece couldn't care less - he's delighted!
