PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baba Jay (ranked 4782 p4p, 5046 weight class) and Drako Puki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puki slaps away a takedown attempt from Jay, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Puki moves forwards but Jay connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Puki clinches up against the cage.
Puki digs a right hand into Jay's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Jay's gas tank.
Jay lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Puki wants to take the fight to the mat but Jay manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Puki misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jay knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Puki on the ground.

Puki might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jay haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Puki is defended easily by Jay.

Puki shoots in and drives through. Jay sprawls well.
Jay stalks Puki and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Puki's face. Puki staggers backwards, shaken.

Jay works over Puki's head and body with a nice combination.
A jab lands there for Jay.

Puki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jay stuffs the takedown attempt from Puki. Puki gets slowly back to his feet.
Baba Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Drako Puki.
Puki shoots for a double leg takedown but Jay sprawls well. He's pushed Puki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Puki counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Puki is breathing heavily.
Jay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Puki wants to stand but Jay has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Puki feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Puki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jay doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jay manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

I would just about give that final round to Drako Puki.
