PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cheveyo Napayshni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buff Bagwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Napayshni's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, War Dance. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cheveyo Napayshni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buff Bagwell!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Napayshni shoots in for a takedown but Bagwell shows good takedown defense.

Bagwell shoots in and bounces Napayshni off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Napayshni throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Napayshni looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bagwell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Napayshni is looking for a triangle here but Bagwell uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Bagwell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Napayshni is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Napayshni throws a few strikes from the bottom but Bagwell takes advantage and mounts!
Bagwell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Napayshni looks a forlorn figure.
Bagwell landing strikes from the mount and Napayshni is in trouble!

Napayshni tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
BOOM! Bagwell connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Bagwell is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Bagwell blocks Napayshni's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Bagwell trying to control but Napayshni is having none of it.
Napayshni is wriggling around trying to escape.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bagwell lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Napayshni hang on?

Bagwell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Napayshni looks a forlorn figure.
Bagwell prevents Napayshni from getting the reversal.
Napayshni taking shots to the head.
Napayshni is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bagwell is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Bagwell is landing with some decent strikes but Napayshni is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bagwell lands a heavy elbow.
Bagwell working the ground and pound effectively.
Napayshni bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Napayshni drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bagwell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Napayshni has Bagwell in his guard.
Napayshni is breathing heavily.
Bagwell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Napayshni's head.

Napayshni working for submissions but it's allowed Bagwell to get to half guard.

Bagwell seems to be working for a kimura but Napayshni defends the submission attempt.

Napayshni tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Bagwell has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Bagwell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Napayshni is looking to escape.

Bagwell is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Napayshni has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Napayshni can't escape the position.

Bagwell is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Napayshni can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bagwell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Napayshni's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buff Bagwell dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Napayshni fails with the takedown

so Bagwell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bagwell trying to control but Napayshni is working from the bottom.

Bagwell is looking to take a break and control but Napayshni is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Napayshni manages to get to full guard.

Napayshni looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bagwell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bagwell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Napayshni is trying to improve his position.
Bagwell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Napayshni might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bagwell drops an elbow to the side of Napayshni's head.
Bagwell is trying to control the action in half guard but Napayshni is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Napayshni manages to get to full guard.
Napayshni throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Bagwell trying to control the position from guard on top but Napayshni is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bagwell is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Bagwell stays in close to Napayshni's body and controls the position.

Napayshni has his foot on Bagwell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bagwell works his way back into a safe position though.

Bagwell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Napayshni escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bagwell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bagwell lands a couple of digs.
Bagwell working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Napayshni's head.
Napayshni throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Bagwell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bagwell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Napayshni working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bagwell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bagwell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Napayshni had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Bagwell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Napayshni Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Bagwell's back instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cheveyo Napayshni will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Napayshni looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Bagwell has picked Napayshni up and slammed him! Napayshni can't keep hold of the triangle and Bagwell manages to pass to side control!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bagwell stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Napayshni pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Napayshni bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Bagwell wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Napayshni tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Napayshni connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Napayshni closes the distance and clinches up with Bagwell, looking for a takedown. Napayshni pushes Bagwell against the cage but Bagwell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Bagwell avoids the head kick by Napayshni.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bagwell.
Bagwell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Napayshni keeps working.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buff Bagwell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bagwell has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
