Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rod Swagger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yonny Hershey! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Swagger moves into the clinch. Hershey is looking to control Swagger's arms but Swagger gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hershey has his back to the cage. Hershey has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Hershey is trying to drag Swagger to the mat but Swagger just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Swagger blocks the elbow strike.
Swagger lands a body shot in the clinch.
Hershey tries to circle away but Swagger has him pinned against the cage. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Swagger has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hershey is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Swagger goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Swagger is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hershey pulls him back up using the underhooks. Hershey throws a head punch that misses. Hershey tries for a takedown. No joy.
Swagger throws an elbow but it's blocked.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hershey can't find room to land a body shot as Swagger controls the action.
Swagger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hershey feints and as Swagger raises his hands in defense, Hershey changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Hershey sitting in guard, not really doing much. Hershey gets to his feet - Swagger follows without any prompting. Hershey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Rod Swagger has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yonny Hershey. Swagger circles away from the clinch attempt and Swagger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hershey holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hershey looking for a sweep. Not yet Hershey, not yet. Swagger trying to control but Hershey is working from the bottom. Hershey has his foot on Swagger's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Swagger works his way back into a safe position though. Swagger sitting in guard, not really doing much. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hershey trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Hershey seems keen to control Swagger's posture. Swagger looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Swagger stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Hershey throws up his legs and catches Swagger in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Swagger tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Hershey! That came out of nowhere!
