PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Evans (ranked 2079 p4p, 2989 weight class) and Peter Wynn (ranked 286 p4p, 410 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Peter Wynn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thomas Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Wynn!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Evans tries to keep at a distance but Wynn has taken the fight into the clinch.
Wynn stops a takedown attempt from Evans.

Evans breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Wynn manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Evans on his heels. He'll look to pass Evans's guard now, I'm sure.
Wynn working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Evans is looking to stand up but Wynn isn't so interested in that idea.
Wynn wanted to stand there but Evans had control of the position.
Wynn trying to control the position from guard on top but Evans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wynn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Evans working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wynn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wynn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Evans not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wynn wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Wynn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Wynn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Evans trying to keep a closed guard but Wynn is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Evans scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Wynn tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wynn is trying to get back to his feet.

Evans decides to stand back up. Evans steps back and let's Wynn get back to his feet.
Wynn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wynn takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Wynn pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wynn is defended easily by Evans.

Evans looking to score a takedown here. Wynn is defending well but Evans drives through and ends up in Wynn's guard.
Evans stands up over Wynn, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Evans sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wynn's guard.
Wynn is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evans is looking to take a break and control but Wynn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Evans controlling the pace.

Wynn manages to get to full guard.
Evans slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Wynn keeping moving, preventing Evans from controlling successfully.
Wynn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Evans is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Evans decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Thomas Evans will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Wynn moves into range and clinches up with Evans.
Wynn tries for a takedown. No joy.
Evans wants to break the clinch but can't.
Evans looking to slow down the pace here.

Evans manages to pull guard.

Wynn passes Evans's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Evans pushes Wynn off and gets back to his feet.
Wynn fails with a takedown attempt.

Evans shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Wynn manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Evans keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Wynn jumps guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Evans tries to free his leg and advance position but Wynn is retaining full guard.
Wynn controls Evans momentarily but Evans frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wynn can't keep his opponent in guard - Evans advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wynn keeps working.
Evans winds up and cracks Wynn with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Evans is looking to take a break and control but Wynn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Evans seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Evans is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Wynn wants to hold on but Evans pushes him away.
Wynn tries to control Evans's body but Evans pushes him off. Wynn squirms to his side and now Evans has his back!

Evans is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Wynn has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Evans has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Wynn taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Evans doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Thomas Evans!
