PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Harry Hendersons (ranked 2430 p4p, 2973 weight class) and Norris Chow (ranked 248 p4p, 297 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Norris Chow was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harry Hendersons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Norris Chow!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chow scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Chow looks to throw a body kick

and Hendersons counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Chow kicks off Hendersons and gets to his feet.

so Hendersons counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Chow has his feet on Hendersons's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hendersons looks for a takedown but Chow sprawls well.
Chow throws a counter combo.
Norris Chow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hendersons misses with a takedown attempt - Chow sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hendersons dives in for a single leg takedown but Chow sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harry Hendersons. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chow ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Chow no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Chow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hendersons can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hendersons got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chow has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hendersons has managed to get both his arms back between Chow's legs - danger averted.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chow is looking for a triangle but Hendersons pushes his legs off easily.
Hendersons stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chow swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chow told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Hendersons passes Chow's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Chow is looking to improve his position.
Hendersons has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Chow tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Chow keeps trying to improve his position.
Hendersons wants to take Chow's back but he can't do it this time.

Hendersons looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Hendersons goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Chow is on top in guard.

Hendersons working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Chow tries to free his leg and advance position but Hendersons is retaining full guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Chow throws a lazy right hand but Hendersons sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Chow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chow drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chow accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Chow scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Chow trying to control but Hendersons is working from the bottom.
Hendersons is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hendersons is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Chow avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Chow sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hendersons's guard.

Hendersons is trying to control but can't.
Chow thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hendersons's head.
Chow wants to pass to mount but Hendersons is defending the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chow working Hendersons over with strikes.
Chow thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Chow scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Chow is working for a kimura but Hendersons is defending it quite comfortably.
Hendersons on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Chow prevents Hendersons from improving his position.
Chow performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chow missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Chow looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hendersons is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chow pulls his head out easily.
Chow has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chow wants to take a breather but Hendersons is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hendersons attempts a counter takedown but Chow avoids it well and moves away.

Norris Chow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Hendersons's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Chow utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hendersons drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chow manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hendersons has Chow in his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Chow thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chow distracts Hendersons with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Hendersons keeping moving, preventing Chow from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Chow tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hendersons was well out of range. Poor timing from Chow.
Hendersons half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

and Hendersons counters with a single leg into guard. Chow didn't expect that.
Chow throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hendersons throws an elbow that misses. Chow uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hendersons's guard. Nice move by Chow!


Hendersons isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Chow stacks Hendersons on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Chow!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hendersons takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Chow working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Hendersons regains half guard.

Chow is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hendersons is just riding it out for now. Chow eventually gives up the hold.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hendersons gets full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Norris Chow comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
