PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Dracul (ranked 3666 p4p, 3979 weight class) and Paddy Quinlin (ranked 501 p4p, 530 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Quinlin's choice of entrance music: Blood Across the Firmament. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vlad Dracul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paddy Quinlin!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dracul misses with a body punch
and Quinlin counters with a nice uppercut.
Dracul throws a big shot that misses.
Dracul has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Elite MMA Training in the buildup to the fight.
Dracul connects with a body shot.
Dracul throws a lazy uppercut

and Quinlin counters with a shoot takedown. Dracul fights it but they end up in guard.
Quinlin trying to control the position from guard on top but Dracul is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dracul wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Quinlin manages to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dracul is trying to stand up here but Quinlin is controlling him well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quinlin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dracul's head.
Quinlin wants to pass the guard but Dracul is defending well.
Quinlin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dracul keeps working.

Dracul scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Quinlin manages to mount him!

Quinlin sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Poor strikes thrown by Quinlin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Quinlin throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Quinlin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dracul is looking to escape.

Dracul is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Quinlin throws some wild stikes that Dracul manages to avoid easily.

Dracul throws a hook to the side of Quinlin's head but Quinlin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Quinlin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Quinlin cracks Dracul with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Dracul scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Quinlin doesn't seem bothered though.

Dracul connects with a good right hand that stumbles Quinlin. Quinlin circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Dracul rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Quinlin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Dracul takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Dracul throws out a leg kick but Quinlin moves out of range and Dracul only half commits.
Quinlin steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Dracul.
Quinlin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dracul as he jumps to the side.

Quinlin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dracul has time to react.

Quinlin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Quinlin gets control of Dracul's arms and successfully pulls guard. Quinlin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Dracul would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Paddy Quinlin has got the better of the ground game so far.

Quinlin wants to sweep but no luck.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dracul enables Quinlin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dracul manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paddy Quinlin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Quinlin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
