PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ben Callum (ranked 3093 p4p, 4863 weight class) and Vitor Almeida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Callum shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Almeida manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Almeida looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Callum has picked Almeida up and slammed him! Almeida can't keep hold of the triangle and Callum manages to pass to side control!
Almeida takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Almeida tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Callum wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Almeida is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Callum is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Almeida can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Almeida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Callum. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Almeida is trying desperately to improve position.

Callum has hold of Almeida's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Almeida manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Callum takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Almeida attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Callum seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Callum seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Almeida for as long as he can get away with.

Callum is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Almeida to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Almeida shrugs it off.
