Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Burns (ranked 1464 p4p, 2943 weight class) and Rex Hunt (ranked 200 p4p, 372 weight class). Steve Burns has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Burns! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Hunt! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burns fails with the takedown. Burns swats away the attempt to clinch by Hunt. Hunt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Burns manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Hunt lands with a straight right. Burns didn't see that one coming. Burns avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Burns connects with a leg kick. Hunt moves into the clinch successfully.
Hunt is trying to break the clinch but Burns is controlling him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hunt wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Burns tries for a takedown. No joy.

Hunt is trying to trip Burns. He has hold of a leg but Burns is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hunt persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Burns pushes Hunt off and gets back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hunt scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. No luck for Hunt with that takedown attempt. Burns looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice takedown defense from Hunt. No joy for Burns on that attempt. Hunt tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Burns paws at him with a jab and circles away. Burns misses with a head kick.
Hunt gets a clinch. Hunt turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hunt tries to move into full mount but can't pass Burns's legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hunt tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Hunt is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Burns will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Burns bucks up and tries to throw Hunt off but instead Hunt has got his back! I would not like to be Burns right now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burns is working hard here to advance position. We've been hearing good reports from Burns's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Burns covering up well and avoiding damage. Hunt is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
My spies in GinĂ¡sio Guerreiro inform me that Hunt has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Hunt really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Burns. Hunt has the hooks in. Burns is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hunt doesn't have the hooks in and Burns manages to turn into his guard.
Burns content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Hunt has locked up a guillotine! Hunt's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Burns is holding on here and Hunt must be using up a lot of energy. Burns has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Hunt gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
