PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Smashy Cartwright (ranked 3494 p4p, 24625 weight class) and Ewan Striker (ranked 420 p4p, 647 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Cartwright might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Hammer. Ewan Striker will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Striker throws a big shot that misses.
Cartwright tries to counter by clinching up but Striker breaks away and moves out of range.

Cartwright clinches up with Striker and pushes him back against the ropes.
Cartwright tries to pull guard but Striker holds him up against the ropes and eventually Cartwright drops back down to his feet.

Striker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Striker looking to sit in guard and control but Cartwright gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cartwright's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Cartwright postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Striker seems a little lost for a moment, as Cartwright dominates the positioning.

Cartwright scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Striker to see if he's OK.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cartwright is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Striker will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
