Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derek James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giovanni Campino!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James throws a series of punches but Campino moves out of range.
James fails with the takedown.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Campino paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James has a takedown stuffed.
James fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derek James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James misses with a head kick.
Campino throws a combination that misses
and James counters with a nice body shot.
James ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Campino looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? James is fending him off so far but Campino persists. Nope, James circles away and we're back to standing.
James throws a lazy right hand but Campino sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and James cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Giovanni Campino has been cut.
Nice takedown defense from James. No joy for Campino on that attempt.

Campino takes the fight into the clinch.
Campino is trying to break free.
Campino content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Campino is looking to break free of the clinch but James has double underhooks.
James throws an elbow but it misses.

Campino wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James wants to get back to his feet but Campino is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Campino controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
James wants to stand but Campino is controlling the position.
Campino has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Campino wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Campino won't allow James to get back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
James lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Campino takes one on the button.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James clinches but Campino breaks the clinch

and Campino counters with a nice double leg into side control. James won't be happy with that.
Campino misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

James tries to bench press Campino off him but Campino keeps the position.

James is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
James tries to get back to half guard but can't.
James is trying to buck Campino off.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Campino.
James throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
James is looking to clinch.
James connects with the punch.


That has opened up Giovanni Campino's cut even more.
A jab from James finds it's way through Campino's defenses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Campino takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
James misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Campino has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Campino there as he acknowledges the shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

James lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Campino moves out of range of the body kick from James.
Campino turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
James connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
James tries to land a front kick but Campino steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Campino ducks under a wild hook from James.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from James.

Campino moves into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James tries to stall but Campino uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Campino drops down looking for an ankle pick but James pulls his leg out and moves away.
James swats away the attempt to clinch by Campino.

Nice takedown defense from James. No joy for Campino on that attempt.
James dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Campino. That did some damage!
James swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Campino with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling James to score with a decent uppercut.
Campino walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A punch lands to the side of Campino 's head but he takes it in his stride.

James darts in and clinches Campino up against the cage.
James throws an elbow that misses.
James landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Campino takes a knee right on the jaw!
Campino wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

James blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

James goes for a takedown attempt but Campino pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

so Campino counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Campino postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Campino stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
James lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Campino circles away quickly and effectively.
James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Campino as he jumps to the side.

Campino swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Derek James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by James.
James works over Campino's head and body with a nice combination.
James pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James throws a low kick, looking for Campino's leg but Campino calmly moves out of range.
James needs to keep his hands up - Campino had a free shot at his head there.
Campino thows a left - swing and a miss!
A head kick from James lands but Campino takes it in his stride.
Campino tries to close the distance and clinch but James swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Derek James is winning the standup battle so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James shoots and misses
and Campino counters with a stiff right hand.
James connects with a right hand. Campino shakes it off.
Campino shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Campino's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
James fails with an attempt to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Campino swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Campino fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. James sprawls well initially but Campino persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Campino thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
James keeping moving, preventing Campino from controlling successfully.

Campino thows a big elbow that misses.
Campino wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
James wants to sweep here but Campino controlling him for the moment.
Campino postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
James misses with a double jab.
James is looking to clinch.
Campino has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by James.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
James lands with a hook. Campino tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
James thuds a left hand into Campino's body.
James looks for a takedown but Campino sprawls well.
Some wild striking there from James.
Horrible takedown by Campino or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
James bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Campino's head.
Nice straight punches there by James. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of James.
Campino takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
James fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
James misses with a looping right.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as James checks a leg kick.
James tries to clinch but Campino moves out of range.

Campino cracks James with an open hand slap.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by James.
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Campino checks a leg kick nicely.
Campino stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from James.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Campino keeps control of James as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
James can't break the clinch.

Campino has dropped down and is working for a takedown. James is trying to keep an underhook but Campino manages to get the takedown into half guard.

James looks like he's trying to stand up.

Campino is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

I would just about give that final round to Giovanni Campino.
