PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dollar Hero (ranked 723 p4p, 892 weight class) and Thomas Maeda (ranked 98 p4p, 125 weight class). Hero's entrance music is For Heavy Metal we will die!. A fine choice. Maeda is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Submission. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dollar Hero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Maeda!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Hero finds it's way through Maeda's defenses.
Maeda takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hero.
Maeda takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Hero throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Hero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maeda keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hero working away.

Hero is trying to get an arm triangle but Maeda is defending well.
Maeda is looking for a sweep.

Maeda is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Maeda takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hero is chipping away with strikes.
Maeda sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Maeda keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Hero seems to be looking for submissions.
Maeda tries to roll over but Hero keeps him under control.

Hero seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maeda has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hero is working away from the top position though.
Maeda is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hero's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hero's back!

Hero gets caught flat footed, as Maeda shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Maeda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hero has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maeda has managed to get both his arms back between Hero's legs - danger averted.

Maeda looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hero has picked Maeda up and slammed him! Maeda can't keep hold of the triangle and Hero manages to pass to side control!
You can see the frustration on Maeda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've been hearing that Hero has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hero throws a nice looking combination but Maeda bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

And Maeda tries to counter it with a takedown but Hero pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Hero fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Maeda manages to avoid it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Let's hope that Maeda has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
