Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 18 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonathan Boaler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ovidio Kiran! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kiran throws a leg kick that is checked and Boaler counters with a shoot takedown. Kiran fights it but they end up in guard. Boaler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Boaler slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Kiran is trying to control Boaler's posture but Boaler avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boaler just content to control the position. Boaler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kiran keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boaler is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kiran is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kiran keeps Boaler under control for a moment. Boaler wants to take a breather but Kiran manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Boaler. Boaler is pushing down on Kiran's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kiran is fighting to maintain full guard but Boaler has managed to sneak the leg through. Boaler wants to pass the guard but Kiran is defending well. Boaler is working hard here to advance position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boaler is looking to stall here but Kiran recovers full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kiran managing to control the position. Kiran told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Boaler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kiran is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boaler trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Kiran manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Boaler looking for a triangle here. Kiran is fighting it but it looks tight! Boaler pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Kiran is tapping out - this one is all over!
