Slinger comes to the cage accompanied by Hail Mary. Patrick Slinger could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Akira Tatakai's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Tatakai checks a leg kick.
Slinger misses with a takedown
and Tatakai counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Despite the aggression on Tatakai's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Slinger fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Tatakai swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Tatakai throws the left hand but Slinger avoids the punch easily.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Slinger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tatakai felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
