Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Everett Covington!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aiko San!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Covington throws a predictable looking body shot
and San counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
San tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Covington manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
San slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Covington swings and misses with a hook to the body.
San punishes Covington's body with a nice straight punch.
Covington slips a straight right by San.
Covington tries to counter with a takedown but San is quick to defend against it.
Covington misses with a takedown attempt - San sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
San doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
San tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Covington was well out of range. Poor timing from San.
Covington half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Covington circles away from the clinch attempt

and Covington counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Covington.
Covington tries to free his leg and advance position but San is retaining full guard.
Covington won't allow San to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Covington passes San's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Covington is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

San is defending against the submission attempts here by Covington.
Covington has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Covington is looking for a kimura but San is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Covington to get the leverage.
Covington wants to take a breather but San is having none of it.

Covington is trying for a kimura here. San looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Covington wins by kimura!
