PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Max Chapman (ranked 2548 p4p, 5623 weight class) and Edward Leaf (ranked 163 p4p, 0 weight class). Chapman comes to the cage accompanied by Invincible - Pop Smoke. Edward Leaf has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Chapman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edward Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapman scores with a jab. Leaf acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A punch lands to the side of Chapman 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Leaf misses with a head kick.
Chapman tried to counter with a leg kick but Leaf avoided it.
Leaf keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Chapman tries to clinch but Leaf is having none of it.
Leaf looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Chapman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chapman gets the takedown into side control.

Chapman decides to stand back up. Chapman steps back and let's Leaf get back to his feet.
Chapman shoots in looking for a takedown. Leaf tries to sprawl out of it but Chapman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Leaf manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Leaf ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chapman moves away.
Leaf misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Chapman.
Chapman feinted with a counter takedown.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chapman.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Chapman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Leaf misses with a wild body shot.
Leaf throws a head kick but Chapman moves out of range.
Chapman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Chapman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Leaf defends well and Chapman ends up having to push Leaf into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Leaf tries to break free but Chapman pushes him back against the cage.

Leaf manages to break the clinch.

Chapman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Leaf tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chapman is in Leaf's guard.

Leaf can't keep his opponent in guard - Chapman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Chapman seems to be looking for submissions.
Chapman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Chapman is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Chapman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Leaf for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chapman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Leaf is just riding it out for now. Chapman eventually gives up the hold.

Leaf is looking for a sweep. Chapman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chapman is keen to just control but Leaf is a slippery customer.
Chapman trying to control the pace.
Chapman trying to control the action but Leaf is working from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Well, if Chapman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Leaf wants to improve his position but Chapman is controlling well.
Chapman not doing much here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chapman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Chapman will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Leaf displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chapman.

Leaf scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Chapman has one foot on Leaf's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Chapman darts in looking for a takedown but Leaf gets double underhooks and turns Chapman into the cage.
Leaf is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Chapman pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Chapman has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Leaf avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Leaf really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chapman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Chapman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Leaf is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Chapman's half guard.
Chapman moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Leaf must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Chapman is pulling down on Leaf's head. It's preventing any offense from Leaf, at least for the moment.
Max Chapman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Chapman wants to sweep here but Leaf controlling him for the moment.

Chapman controls Leaf momentarily but Leaf frees himself.

Leaf is fighting to break Chapman's control of his arms but Chapman is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chapman is on top in guard.

Leaf is refusing to be controlled, as Chapman sits in half guard.

Chapman is trying to work for a kimura but Leaf is defending well.

Leaf is not content to let Chapman control the position.
Chapman is controlling the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Leaf has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chapman is working away from the top position though.

Chapman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Leaf sees it coming and defends easily.

Chapman postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Leaf to stand up.
Chapman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Leaf can do to turn this around?
Leaf swats away the attempt to clinch by Chapman.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chapman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Chapman is looking to counter with head kicks.

and Chapman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Chapman.
Leaf can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chapman controls the pace.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Leaf tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Chapman was well out of range. Poor timing from Leaf.
Leaf tries a head kick but it misses.
Chapman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Chapman is looking for a counter combo.

Chapman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Leaf!
Leaf is not content to let Chapman control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chapman is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Leaf's shoulder. That is not cool.

Chapman wants to control but Leaf is keeping him busy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Leaf can do anything to dispel that myth.

Chapman decides to stand back up. Chapman steps back and let's Leaf get back to his feet.
Chapman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Chapman.

Chapman misses with a takedown attempt - Leaf sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Leaf unleashes a big counter combination but Chapman bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Leaf seems a little lost for a moment, as Chapman dominates the positioning.

You can see the frustration on Leaf's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Leaf tries to bench press Chapman off him but Chapman keeps the position.
Leaf takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Chapman controls the position from side control.

Chapman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Leaf is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Leaf tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Chapman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Leaf to his feet.
Leaf stuffs the takedown attempt from Chapman. Chapman gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Chapman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Chapman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Leaf sprawls well initially but Chapman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Chapman slows the pace down in half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leaf has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chapman is working away from the top position though.

Max Chapman showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chapman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
