PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Blackout Mane (ranked 1385 p4p, 1325 weight class) and Anthony Merel (ranked 188 p4p, 180 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Blackout Mane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Merel! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Anthony Taglia and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mane shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mane in particular looking to stall. Merel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mane's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mane's back! Merel is working the ground and pound. Can Mane escape? Mane tries to roll but Merel sticks to his back.
Merel is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Merel gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Merel gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Merel apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Mane uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Merel has time to react. Mane throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Merel sees it coming and avoids it easily. This has been an exciting period of action! Merel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Merel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Merel is working Mane over with some ground and pound from side control. Mane tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Merel wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Mane wants to control but Merel postures up. I've been told that Merel has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merel tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mane is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Merel off and has taken his back! Mane is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Merel knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Merel for a finish. Mane wants to control but Merel is keeping busy. Mane tightening his grip on Merel, looking for the choke. Mane is working for a rear naked choke. Merel is not defending it well and Mane has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Merel refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Merel's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Blackout Mane! Blackout Mane tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
