PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alpa Chino (ranked 2939 p4p, 3543 weight class) and Nick Spangler (ranked 402 p4p, 468 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Spangler's choice of entrance music: Bad Company by - BAD COMPANY. Nick Spangler will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alpa Chino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Spangler!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chino gets a double leg takedown into Spangler's guard.
Chino controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Chino keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Spangler's head.
Chino has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Chino trying to control but Spangler is working from the bottom.
Chino working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Chino drops back looking for a leg! Spangler is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Spangler manages to kick Chino off! Chino jumps back into Spangler's guard.
Spangler wants to get back to his feet but Chino is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Spangler can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spangler is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Spangler is defending well against a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spangler tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Chino lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Spangler tries to kick Chino off but Chino keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Chino trying to mount his opponent but Spangler defends it.
Chino works his way into full mount!
Chino raining down shots from the mount!

Chino wants to finish this one by submission but Spangler is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Chino.

Chino is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Spangler is surviving well by controlling Chino's body position as best he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chino working for a submission but Spangler is keeping him at bay.
Spangler really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Spangler looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spangler is still trying to improve position.

Chino looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chino working the ground and pound effectively.
Spangler wants to control but Chino is having none of it.
Chino punishing his opponent with strikes.
Chino looking to control and managing it successfully.
Spangler wants to hold on but Chino pushes him away.

Spangler has left one of his arms exposed and Chino doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Spangler screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alpa Chino!
Alpa Chino seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Nick Spangler spoke after the fight, saying 'I'll be back for your soul'.
