PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Fochi (ranked 1635 p4p, 1356 weight class) and Mike Camble (ranked 218 p4p, 182 weight class). Mike Camble told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Fochi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Camble!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Camble takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Fochi moves out of range as Camble strikes.
Camble throws an off balance right hand
enabling Fochi to counter with a crisp jab.
Camble throws a poor cross that misses
and Fochi counters with a nice uppercut.
Fochi moves forwards but Camble connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Camble takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Nice shot by Fochi.

Fochi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Fochi is looking for a kimura but Camble is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fochi to get the leverage.
Camble is controlling Fochi's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Camble's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Fochi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Camble knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Camble regains full guard. Nicely done.
Fochi won't allow Camble to sweep him here.

Camble escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fochi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Camble is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fochi trying to control the position from guard on top but Camble is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fochi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fochi tries to free his leg and advance position but Camble is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Camble is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Camble has control of Fochi's left arm, preventing Fochi from doing any damage.
Camble is trying to keep Fochi in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Camble keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Camble connects with a jab.

Camble misses with a left hand
and Fochi counters with a two punch combo.
Fochi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Camble doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Fochi counters with a straight right hand.
Camble circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mike Camble seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Camble stuffs the takedown attempt from Fochi. Fochi gets slowly back to his feet.
Camble misses with a wild body shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Fochi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fochi won't allow Camble to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Camble lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Michael Fochi will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Jab, jab by Fochi - just one landing.
Camble shoots and misses
and Fochi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Fochi connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Fochi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Camble moves away.
Michael Fochi is winning the standup battle so far.
Camble stuffs the takedown.
Fochi defending well as Camble loads up on a big left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Camble missing with a left hand there. Fochi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Camble tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fochi was well out of range. Poor timing from Camble.
Camble fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Camble walks into a left hand.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Camble.
Fochi swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
A telegraphed right hand from Fochi misses the target.
Camble uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fochi.
Camble comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fochi misses with a combination
and Fochi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fochi stuns Camble with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Fochi lands with a good body shot.
Fochi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Camble pinned against the cage. Camble gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Camble ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fochi moves away.
Camble lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Camble thuds a left hand into Fochi's body.
Camble has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Fochi connects with a crisp jab.
Fochi misses with a straight left.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fochi misses with a few strikes there.
Fochi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Camble.
Camble shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Fochi as he avoids it easily.
Michael Fochi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Camble.

Camble misses with a body shot.
Camble comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fochi throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fochi with a nice cross.
Camble rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Fochi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Camble keeping moving, preventing Fochi from controlling successfully.
Fochi wants to pass the guard but Camble is keeping the position.

Fochi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Camble has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fochi has managed to get both his arms back between Camble's legs - danger averted.
Camble pulls Fochi in to control the position.

Fochi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Camble bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Fochi's guard.

Camble with a nice head shot there.
Camble stands up over Fochi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Camble passes into half guard.
Camble trying to pass the guard but Fochi defending well.
Camble controlling the pace.
Camble is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Fochi!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael Fochi will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Camble throws a looping overhand right but Fochi ducks down to avoid it.
Good exchange - Camble coming out on top.

Fochi looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Fochi wants to pass the guard but Camble is defending well.
Camble has his hands clasped together around Fochi's back. He's all about the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Camble manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Fochi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Camble is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fochi is looking to pass into half guard but Camble pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Camble is in guard.

Fochi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Camble doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Camble manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Camble takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fochi is looking to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Camble lands a nice short elbow.
Camble wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fochi keeps working.

Camble seems to be looking for submissions.
Fochi is trying to get back to full guard.
Camble looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Fochi is looking to improve his position.
Camble is taking a breather. Fochi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mike Camble has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Camble connects with a body shot that sends Fochi's belly button to the back.
Camble lands with an uppercut that bounces Fochi off the cage and back into range.
Fochi wants to clinch but Camble slips to the side

and Camble counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Fochi!

Camble is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Fochi's shoulder. That is not cool.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fochi takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Fochi on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Michael Fochi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mike Camble comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fochi has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
