PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ikku Kurokawa (ranked 5261 p4p, 4854 weight class) and Brendon Rownie (ranked 591 p4p, 574 weight class). Ikku Kurokawa has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ikku Kurokawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brendon Rownie!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rownie pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Kurokawa on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Kurokawa bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kurokawa changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Kurokawa went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

As Rownie looks to move away, Kurokawa throws a big counter combo but Rownie just gets out of the way.

Kurokawa fires out a quick counter leg kick but Rownie just manages to avoid it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rownie throws out a loose jab but Kurokawa uses good head movement to avoid it.

It looks like Brendon Rownie has been cut.

Kurokawa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rownie defends it well.
Kurokawa is taking a breather. Rownie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kurokawa thows a huge punch but Rownie dodges it nicely.

Kurokawa looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Rownie is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Rownie takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Kurokawa fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Kurokawa tries to score with some ground and pound. Rownie controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Kurokawa is trying to get an arm triangle but Rownie is defending well.
Check out the look on Kurokawa's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Rownie parries the strikes from Kurokawa easily there. Kurokawa is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rownie to escape.

Kurokawa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kurokawa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

We've been informed that Rownie has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Kurokawa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rownie throws out the jab.

Kurokawa dives in and grabs Rownie's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rownie pushes down on Kurokawa's head and hops out.
Rownie cracks Kurokawa with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Kurokawa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rownie moves away.

It seemed like Rownie was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Rownie misses with an uppercut. Kurokawa saw that one coming.
It looked like Kurokawa was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Rownie.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rownie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kurokawa's guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kurokawa is on top in guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kurokawa decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kurokawa is nestled in close to Rownie, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Kurokawa working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Rownie is doing well to defend. Kurokawa seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Rownie is forced to tap and this one is over!
