PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Landon Miranda (ranked 24813 p4p, 4615 weight class) and Gabe Powera (ranked 678 p4p, 0 weight class). Miranda kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Your Eyes. The key to victory for Landon Miranda has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Landon Miranda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gabe Powera!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miranda throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Powera's waist but Powera gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Miranda off to one side.
Gabe Powera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Miranda looks to throw a body kick

and Powera counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Miranda prevents the takedown attempt.
Powera wants a takedown.

Powera tightens his grip and picks Miranda up, before dumping him to the ground. Miranda manages to land in guard.
Powera is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Miranda pushes Powera off and scrambles back to his feet.

Powera closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Powera lands in his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Powera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
It looks like Powera might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Powera prevents Miranda from getting back to his feet.
Powera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Powera works a leg free and moves into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Powera with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Miranda knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Powera on the ground.
Powera scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Powera looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Miranda wants to get back to full guard.
Miranda tries to kick Powera off but Powera keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Powera displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miranda.
Powera misses with a kick to the body.

Powera scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Powera in particular looking to stall.
Powera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Miranda with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Miranda has hold of Powera's hands but Powera slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powera is controlling the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Powera slips a nice elbow through Miranda's hands, connecting with Miranda's forehead.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gabe Powera dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The fight moves into the clinch position.
Powera tries to score a body lock takedown but Miranda shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Powera has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Miranda after a bit of a struggle.
Miranda is trying to break the clinch but Powera has him pressed against the cage.

Powera has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Powera is working for a kimura here but Miranda manages to reverse the position and he's now in Powera's guard.

Powera is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miranda defends well.

Powera has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miranda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Miranda stands up and waves to Powera to follow him.
Powera tries to clinch there but Miranda circles away.
Miranda drops down looking for a counter takedown but Powera sprawls and moves away.

Miranda fails with a takedown attempt.

Powera gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Miranda is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Powera is defending well for now.
Miranda tries to break free but Powera pushes him back against the cage.

Powera decides to pull guard.

Powera looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Miranda is defending well. Powera quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Miranda has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Powera celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Gabe Powera!
In defeat, Landon Miranda stepped up to the mic, saying 'Hey, good fight man'.
