The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sakuraba gets a double leg takedown into Pacheco's guard. Sakuraba might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Sakuraba sitting in guard here, content to control. Sakuraba has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Sakuraba tries to free his leg and advance position but Pacheco is retaining full guard. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Sakuraba fails to take his opponent's back. Sakuraba takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Sakuraba trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Pacheco doesn't escape. Sakuraba is persistently looking for the submission but Pacheco is defending it well.
Pacheco is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Sakuraba off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Sakuraba trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Pacheco doesn't escape.

Sakuraba is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Pacheco knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Pacheco for a finish. Sakuraba just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Sakuraba is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pacheco defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Pacheco is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Sakuraba.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Sakuraba is stinking the place up with his stalling.

And that's the end of the fight! Sakuraba takes the fight on points by 10 to 0. After the fight, Ishiihara Sakuraba was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
