Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gustav Line (ranked 104 p4p, 774 weight class) and Armad Bates (ranked 15 p4p, 106 weight class). Line comes into the arena with For Heavy Metal we will die! blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gustav Line!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armad Bates!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates with a poor takedown
and Line counters with a left to the body.
Bates shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Line as he jumps to the side.
A slow jab from Line misses its intended target.
Line swings for the body but Bates moves out of range.
Line misses with a wild body shot.
Line works the jab nicely.
Bates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gustav Line has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Armad Bates.
Line moves into range and connects with a jab.
We've been told by Line's head coaches at Heavy Metal that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Gustav Line seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Line with a nice calf kick.

Bates gets tackled into the cage by Line. Line maintains the clinch.

Line breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A clash of legs there as Bates blocks the low kick.

Bates fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Line to the ground. Bates is now in Line's guard.

Line is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Line is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bates is aware though and is defending well.
Line is trying to control the position but Bates postures up.

Bates might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Line haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Line might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bates shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A big right from Line misses.
Line leaves Bates with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Line connects with a right hand. Bates shakes it off.

and Bates counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Line rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bates moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bates or perhaps it was just good defense by Line, which made it look bad.

Nice takedown defense from Line. No joy for Bates on that attempt.
Line looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Bates is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Line to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Line shrugs it off.
