PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aramis Knox (ranked 988 p4p, 1614 weight class) and Masa Funaki (ranked 139 p4p, 214 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aramis Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Masa Funaki!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The crowd cheers as Knox lands an impressive looking overhand right. Funaki doesn't seem phased though.
Knox connects with a good right hand that stumbles Funaki. Funaki circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Funaki uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nice defenses there by Funaki.
Funaki throws a looping overhand right but Knox ducks down to avoid it.
Knox misses with a few strikes there.

Knox has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Funaki is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Knox.

Knox jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Funaki walks away with a smile on his face. Knox gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

The referee asks Funaki politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Funaki prefers to stall for the moment though.

Masa Funaki decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
In defeat, Aramis Knox stepped up to the mic, saying 'Sheeeeeeeeit. '.
