PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Jones (ranked 4520 p4p, 4378 weight class) and Hunter Weaver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kevin Jones !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hunter Weaver!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Weaver.
Jones looks for a takedown but Weaver sprawls well.
Weaver scores with a body shot.
Weaver misses the jab.
Weaver throws a body shot but no joy.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jones tries for a takedown but Weaver sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Jones . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Weaver rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Weaver throws the left hand but Jones avoids the punch easily.
Jones seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Weaver, pushing him back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Weaver pushes Jones back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Jones manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Jones wants to stand and escape but Weaver is having none of it.
Weaver really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Weaver postures up in Jones 's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.
Weaver seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Weaver has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Weaver must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Weaver looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Weaver wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Weaver has Jones pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Weaver has control of Jones 's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage.
Jones won't allow Weaver to get back to his feet.
Weaver is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jones dives into side control.
Weaver manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jones 's best efforts.

Jones decides to stand up.

Weaver gets a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Weaver misses with a punch to the body.
Weaver trying to stall but Jones improves his position.
Weaver throws a punch but it's blocked by Jones .
Jones digs a right hand into Weaver's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Weaver's gas tank.

Weaver gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Weaver with a flurry of punches that miss.
Weaver stops Jones from standing up.
Weaver engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Weaver from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Weaver looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Jones gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Weaver misses the jab.
Jones seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Weaver looks to score with a jab to the body but Jones is just out of range.
Jones tries to counter by clinching up but Weaver breaks away and moves out of range.

Weaver moves into the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee is keeping an eye on Weaver - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Jones gets through Weaver's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Weaver tries to stall but Jones uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter Weaver dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Weaver blocks the body kick.
Weaver misses with a body shot
and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has Weaver backing up. Weaver nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes.
Weaver slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones , before circling back to the center of the mat.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Weaver throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jones on the side of the head.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Weaver sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Jones . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones moves away from the strike by Weaver.
Hunter Weaver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Weaver throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Weaver.
Jones appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Weaver keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Weaver throws a combination. Jones tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Jones is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weaver throws the left hand but Jones avoids the punch easily.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Weaver cracks Jones with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Jones tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Weaver pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Jones is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hunter Weaver!
Hunter Weaver decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
