PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Fendley (ranked 4553 p4p, 4711 weight class) and Tai Kina (ranked 540 p4p, 550 weight class). Fendley comes into the arena with "Droppin' Plates" by Disturbed blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Fendley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tai Kina!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Reed Andrews and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fendley tries to close the distance and clinch but Kina swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fendley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kina as he avoids it easily.
Kina feints the counter takedown.
Fendley looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kina is fending him off so far but Fendley persists. Nope, Kina circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fendley is defended easily by Kina.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Fendley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fendley uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fendley dives in and grabs Kina's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kina pushes down on Fendley's head and hops out.

and Kina counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kina stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kina wants it to stay on the feet.
Kina wants to counter the offense by Fendley and move into the clinch position.

Kina shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fendley manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kina stands up over Fendley, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kina postures up and lands a big shot to Fendley's brow.

It looks like Kina might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Kina is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kina lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Fendley can't keep his opponent in guard - Kina advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Kina working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kina is controlling the pace.
Fendley is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kina scores with a couple of nice shots.
Fendley has hold of Kina's hands but Kina slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fendley slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Fendley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kina connects with a couple of short punches.
Kina is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kina must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kina postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Fendley controlling the position.
Kina lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kina stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fendley swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kina slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kina is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tai Kina dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fendley wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kina grinds an elbow into Fendley's temple.
Fendley is trying to control Kina's posture but Kina avoids it.

Tai Kina has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fendley is looking for a sweep.
Kina is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Fendley will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kina creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Kina has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oh Fendley is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kina is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fendley is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kina lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Fendley down.

Fendley manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kina's best efforts.
Kina is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Let's hope that Kina has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Fendley is trying to control but Kina passes into side control!
Kina looks up at the clock and then as Fendley takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kina smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Fendley is looking for a sweep.

Kina is chipping away with strikes.

Kina is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Fendley is trying to escape and Kina transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Fendley is forced to tap! Nice work there by Kina! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tai Kina!
A less than humble Tai Kina misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
